Just getting started!
Hi Everyone
I am new to all of this but I have been reading the posts for a little while now. I guess I will now become one of the gang on the road to a new skinnier life. It is very interesting to read what everone has to say and helps put me at ease that I am making the right decision. It seems to be a great place for support in this long journey and it is with people that understand the struggles. I have a very supportive family but I don't think any of them really understand what I am going through. I have been reffered to Dr Pace and am now awaiting my initial appointment so I am very anxious to learn all of your experiences so far. Hope to hear from you all soon!

Nice to meet you Kash. This is a wonderful site and everyone is very supportive. We are all learning as we go as the first surgery done in Newfoundland was in May. My surgery is this coming Monday and I believe I will be the 11th person done. (If anyone knows different please correct me). Keep reading and learning here and also on the main Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy page. Also there is and excellent site in the US www.verticalsleevetalk.com It was imensely helpful to me. On any of these sites you can feel free to ask questions. It is truly amazing to be part of a group of people who truly understand what we have been going though our whole lives.

Hi Tina it is nice to meet you too! Thank you for the information I will certainly take a look. Good luck on your surgery next week. I guess you are getting very excited. Do you know much about the liquid diet and what types of things is best to have. I wanted to try and get a jump start on losing weight because I need to lose about 50 lbs in order to get to a good BMI to get the surgery faster. I have been on Weigh****chers for over a year and had 30 lbs off with the old plan but since they changed the plan I have basically gained it all back. I am at the point I am willing to try anything because it is affecting my life sooooo much and I just want to get back to the fun loving gal I used to be. It is so dfificult to do the simplest things any more and it gets very frustrating. I was hoping I could join you for coffee this weekend but I will be out of town till Saturday night, maybe next time.
Hi Jackie79 that sounds great! Was the first appointment the information session? I spoke to Raleen and she said that she would be having another one in the new year. I am hoping to be part of that. I know it will be a long process for me because of my BMI and medical history but just the idea of getting my life back has me so excited it is all I can think about.
Welcome to the site Krista. My email is [email protected]
I need you to send a request email to me and then I can forward the
copy of the diet to you. For some reason the diet will not copy and paste.
I am in the same situation as you. I've seen Dr. P and he asked me to lose
30lbs. to be under 60 BMI for surgery. I am hoping that he is going to do me
in Feb. I was 326lbs. when he saw me and because I am short. My BMI
was 61. He is doing people now with BMI's around 45-46. So, he is working
his way up. I've been a little discouraged with it all because I was one of the
1st. names on the referal list when he started and I am still waiting. All
because my BMI was too high. I am trying to wait patiently until the new
year, hoping he will be comfortable doing us with higher BMI's then. I also,
have health issues.

Hi Terrie I sent you an email yesterday but it may have gone to your junk mail because I am not a contact or something. Let me know and if you didn't get it I will try again. My BMI right now is under 60 but it is still high I think around 56 but like you I have medical issues and maybe too many for Dr Pace to even consider doing the surgery on me, but in order to get my health back under control I really need to get this done. I have tried so many other things and nothing works. I partly blame it on all of the medications I have to take and also because of all the pain I am in it is very hard to exercise. I figure if I can lose a bit of weight and get my BMI lower I may get done quicker. The worst thing is it is hard to lose weight and I am getting very tired from trying, it can really stress you out. I am glad to have found this site reading everyone's entries you don't feel so alone on this journey. Have you have the information session yet or any of the testing I hear about? If not maybe we will be on this road together since our BMIs are so close.
