What is the estimated wait time for the Sleeve procedure in Newfoundland?

Depends.  If you have a low BMI say around 45 or under people seem to be getting in for their first appointment within a few weeks.  If you have a higher BMI the wait could be several months.  The reason for this is that this is a really new program to Newfoundland.  They want to do several lower BMI first for 2 reasons.  1. Dr. Pace although a very experienced (and very good according to my family Dr.) surgeon does not have a huge amount of experience with this particular surgery.  He wants to do several less complicated ones before he moves on to the higher BMIs which can more complicated.  2.  This program to date has received only temporary funding.  They want several less complicated patients to go through first so they have some great data to use to fight to get this program funded permanently.

My BMI is 41, so I guess I would be considered less complicated.  I have an appointment with my family doctor tomorrow, hopefully will get the ball rolling for me so I can get in to see Dr. Pace.
Thank you so much for the infor tir681 - i really appreciate it!!

Why have you been waiting so long?  I thought that this was relatively new to NL.  You must have been waiting to get something done in another province?

At the time i signed up for the surgery they were doing it the Old way
the Stomach Stapling, but they dont do that anymore,,  and i was on a waiting list
and it took em this long to get he approval  for the new way the gastric bypass,  * vertical sleeve*
i could have went to New bruinswick and had it done *if* the extra funds were there,
so ive been on Dr pace list all this time..
