It must be getting bad now....LOL My husband said yesterday "so, what last
meal are you having today???"  Since I got my call or maybe even a little bit
before that. I started saying I want this and I want that... I been sending Bill
out for my new craving everyday. I want this before surgery, I won't be able
to have a Tim's donut ever again. So, I have been going crazy.... help me stop
this is craziness... isn't it? Had a pizza in town last week, had Mary browns,
yesterday. McDonald's for lunch. I admit that I have ice cream in the freezer
to watch Am. has Talent tonight. Has Anyone else gone through a stage like
this???? I have told myself that it all ends on the 16th. after my appointment.
Any thoughts on the subject???? Tell me how bad I am, I can take it....LOL

Terrie, Terrie, Terrie!  Every pound you put on now is another one you will have to lose after your surgery!

In reality there is probably nothing you can never eat again.  Even with gastric bypass after a couple of years your stomach should be able to handle just about everything it could before, just in smaller portions.  That's why its so important to take as much advantange of that "Honeymoon Phase"  the first year after surgery when the weight comes off fast.  Yes, with gastric bypass you get dumping syndrome but that lessens over time to the point that most can eat everything they did before in a couple of years.  I have been a member of a weight loss surgery site in British Columbia for several years and that one has almost all gastric bypass patients.  I have read several of the long time RNYs saying they still love their Tim Horton's donuts.

Don't tell yourself you can never eat it again.  Just tell yourself you just won't have it for awhile.

Hugs Terrie, but you can do better and you know it!

I SO agree with the last post. And not only will it be more weight to take off later - it is making you a more un-healthy pre-op patient - and you want to be as healthy as you can to make your surgery as trouble free as possible. As an RNY patient - I CAN eat a Tim's Donut - I can eat pizza - I can eat pretty near anything I want. I don't dump. I still have good restriction - so the amount I eat is limited. I HAVE to make good food choices - or I could easily eat my way back to where I was pre-op - and that's not the plan. The miracle for me is that I still NEVER feel hunger. I have head hunger - it's a battle. You will be able to eat most things again - but not for a while. So don't go nuts having things just because you may never have them again. Good luck and take care!

Thank you everyone for your honesty. From what I have read about Gastric.
They remove the part of the bowel that processes the sugar and you get the
dumping if you try to eat any sugar.Mary, I didn't know that you can eat sugars
years later. WOW! That helps me so much to know that. I am not a big sugar or
sweets person. My weakness is I love the big homecooked meals. But,the thought
of never eating a donut again for example really makes a person nutty. Tammy I
never ate at night either, until lately... it's crazy.I did the same thing the other night
I went in the fridge around 10pm. and cut off a chunk of cold meatloaf. I paid for it
all night with heart burn. So, that was my kick in the pants that night. I know that I
can do this later. I used to be 128 lbs. before my pregnancies. and it snowballed
from there. But, I really need this to get my life back for myself and my husband.
I want to be able to play with my grandkids. Tina, my first and best friend in here.
You have been so much help to me already. I appreciate all your opinions.
This site is a god send. All you guys are awesome.

Hi Terrie - Just remember - that some post-ops do dump - and I'm sure you have read about how unpleasant it can be for those folks. Once you are a post-op - it's a huge learning curve that goes on forever. What works for you - what doesn't. I'm not proud of it - but I could eat a donut or small piece of cake no problem if I wanted to. The funny thing is - I NEVER had a sweet tooth pre-op. I was more likely to reach for some cheese and crackers - or a slice of toast with peanut butter. So - I just don't have anything in the house that is tempting. Plain and simple. It's easy for me to do that because my son is 23yrs old and away at school in St. John's and my husband works away in Labrador or Sask for the most part. If it's not here in the house - I can't eat it. At work - it's hard. I work in ER and there is ALWAYS junk around. As for a big old cooked dinner - I go for the protein first - a leaner piece of turkey or roast or whatever it is, salt meat and I have never gotten along post-op - so I skip that. Maybe a bite or two of potato, turnip etc. A bite or two of dressing. Very small portions - as I said I have good restriction still - and just when I feel like I want that one last bite - I have earned that's the one that will make me overfull and uncomfortable. I take my time eating - up to 30 mins for a meal like I just described - it just doesn't go down well if I rush. And I find that if I am stressed - same thing. As a post-op - it takes a while to figure out what works for you and what doesn't. Everyone is different. But - there is life after weight loss surgery. I promise! Take care.

Thanks Mary, You have been so awesome with all this info. I won't say I have a
sweet tooth either. But, you know the saying and when someone tells you that
you can't have it, well, tehn that's exactly what you crave...LOL I'm sure I will
learn my limits. And I will miss my mother-in-laws Sunday dinners for a while.
and BBQ's also. But, my health is more important so I shall overcome and I
will survive!!!

You will survive - and you will have bbq again - mine these days consist of 3 to 4oz of meat - then a few bites of potatoe, mushrooms and onion, and a 1/2 slice of garlic bread - always protein first - and it takes me a good long time to eat it - but it's some good! Any questions you have - anytime - nothings off limits - I'm here.
