I don`t live in Newfoundland but I am so happy to hear that this surgery will be available and paid for in your province. I had my surgery in Ottawa on April1, 2011. I fell great and down 50 LBS as of today. It was so unfair that you had to go out of province to get your weight loss surgeries. So if you`re contemplating or are in line for this surgery, good luck and post on this site often. This forum will help you a lot and as time goes by, more and more will hook up here. Thanks and good luck.

Hi Jamie;
Hice to hear from you. First of all I am a senior...62 years old. Had my surgery April 1, 2011. I then weighed 263 LBS and now as of this morning I weigh 210. When I was referred to the weight loss clinic in Ottawa last year I weighed 273. I waited for the surgery for about one year....long waiting list, but during that time, I researched everything I could about the Roux-en-y procedure. Before the surgery I was taking 19 different meds spread out during the day. Now I take a grand total of 8. I was also using a CPAP (I had terrible sleep apnea) but I don't use it anymore. I was having a very hard time getting around before the surgery because of very bad arthritis, rheumatism and bad knees. Now I get out for walks, go mall walking and this year I expect to take in country fairs.
The day of my surgery I wore a size 22 jean to the hospital, today I am wearing size 15-16 jean. I now buy all my clothes at the secondhand store because I am loosing weight too fast. It would be a waste of money to be buying new cloths every 2-3 weeks or so. I am now more than half way to my goal weight so I am very happy with the results of my surgery.
Don't get me wrong, this surgery itself is no cake walk but it is well worth it.......it was for me. I got my life back. For sure I would recommend this surgery to anyone. The younger you are the more enjoyment you will get from this surgery. This surgery gives you back your health, self esteem and an overall joy for life.
Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement.
