I was just talking to Dr. Pace's office and they are now taking names for surgery !!!!
You must get your family doctor to send in a referral for you.
This is the most awesome news for Newfoundlander's.... I am so excited
to findly have some hope of getting this done !!!!! YAAAHHHHHWOOOO !!!

Does this mean there will be MCP covered bariatric proceedures??

Yes, I am covered by MCP for mine. Your doc has to contact Blair Fleming at MCP.

What procedure does mcp cover? The bypass surgery and/or the lap banding?

As far as I know they only cover the complete gastric bypass...
You can email Dr. Blair Fleming and ask him at MCP... he has to approve it.

Do you know of any doctors that do the bypass out of the province? I know about dr.pace and in the process of getting in contact with him but would like to know of other dr i could go to.

 

There is a 5-7 year waiting list in N.B. and Ont. is not taking people outside the province. Tina mentioned a doc. in Mexico maybe she could tell you about that. But, I would think your best bet now is to stay home and have it done here. Why go somewhere else?

I emailed Dr. Fleming the other day and he says you don't need to be preapproved for Dr. Pace.  I guess the preapproval must be for if your going out of the province.  This is a direct copy and paste from his email.

The Department of Health and Community Services/MCP has no plans to require prior approval of insured surgical weight loss procedures performed within the publicly funded health care system in this province. In other words, you will not need preapproval for a procedure performed at the Health Sciences Centre by Dr. Pace.

ohhh, okay, I got pre-approval before because I was required to go outside the province.
2 years later ....I am still waiting... now to be done here. Good Luck to all of you.
