Hi Vicki ... I know your posting was a while ago, but I was just banded last Wednesday (06/13/07) and will be living in St. John's for July and August this year. What's your story? Cheryl, currently in Fredericton, heading to St. John's July 3/4

Hey Cheryl.... WOW I cant believe someone actually responded to my post ...yipeee...I was banded in Nov 06 and am down 80 lbs ... feeling great but still facing challenges everyday .... Its not easy thats for sure and Me being the impatient being i am cant seem to lose the weight fast enough .... I've hit a plateau I've been fluctuating losing and gaining the same 7 pounds for about 6 weeks now ... I have restriction after 5 fills (9ccs in my band)but I often find myself eating the wrong foods Junk basically ! Its a funny thing that the only food that slips right through is the chocolate, chips and cake ... All of which I love !! so its been hard and I have been failing miserably the last week , I've really lost control so I'm a little frustrated to say the least !.... anyway soorrry to ramble but sometimes it just helps to vent ... So whats the deal with you I very rarely hear of someone coming TO newfoundland , what brings you farther east ?? and How are you feeling being newly banded and all ?? its quite an experience , I remember the fist month I was convinced I had no band at all and they just took my money !! please keep me updated and keep in touch I'm so anxious to meet fellow bandsters but living here I havent had any success .... take care Vicki

Hi, I am from newfoundland also. I just joined the site in hopes of meeting and getting some info from others with the same difficulties. Did you have a long weight for your surgery...did you have coverage? I have just started looking into it. I am over 300 pounds and can't seem to lose the weight. It is starting to prevent me from even walking know (my knees are giving me trouble). I thought the surgery could be done in newfoundland.

Hi Susan ! Nice to meet you .... its always a pleasure to meet fellow newfies !! Now about the surgery , No I didnt have a long wait but that is because I paid for the surgery myself , as of right now the surgery is not being performed here , Dr David Pace has the expertise and the qualifications to operate but has not been successful in getting the Govt on board , his wish would be to have the procedure completely covered by MCP (which it should be) but they wont give him the go ahead ...I'm not sure how long its going to take but I wasnt willing to wait ... I was also well over 300 lbs and struggling, I think obesity is the most debilitating disease and it eats away at your self worth and diminishes your physical abilities not to mention the other co morbidities.... I can certainly relate to your story , the simplest things become a huge chore when your as big as I was and I couldnt take it anymore , I had tried and failed at every diet and this seemed like the only solution for me .... I am so pleased with my success even though it hasnt been easy , I have lost 90 lbs so far and feel so much better about myself ... Financially ,the surgery has set me back tremendously but I dont know if you can put a price tag on your health so I look at it as an investment in my health !! LOL makes it easier to justify ! but anyway thats pretty much it in a nutshell ... If ya have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask , I know how frustrating and tedious it can be looking for info ... you can email me at [email protected] take care Vicki

Hi!! I am just joining the site and I am looking for information on researching banding surgery...Also, what I am really interested in, is where you got your surgery done, and how you got referred there, how long was the wait, and how much it was if you don't mind telling me that is! Any information would be a great help to me. Thank you so much!!! Sarah

Hi,

I have had the lapband surgery from TLBC (Dr. Yau, Toronto). I'm looking for other bandsters in Newfoundland, so that we may provide some local support. Anyone out there that has been banded by Dr. Yau?
