Topic: RE: What's New in Jerse?
Hi New Jerseyians!  I live in very far south Jersey too.  In a shore town.  Very pretty but I dont know anyone down here....and I cant really go on the beach...so it makes it more difficult for me.  I am brand new to the boards here and just had my 1st appt w/my surgeon (2.5 hours north of me).  Nice doc and nice staff.  (it is really amazing how 'far'  apart towns are in NJ --- when you look at a map it really shouldnt be that way!  Oh well....all the cars and traffic can do that).

Cindy, a book that I just recently came across talks about energy (ATP) and the lack of it and how to increase it.  It is called The Sinatra Solution and he (Dr Sinatra) talks about 4 supplements that help increase energy:  Co Q10, L carnitine, magnesium and D-ribose.  A few others can help support the heart, but those listed above help the ATP work better and also another bonus from L carnitine is that it helps burn off fat.  (mind you, I can't speak first hand of the benefit of these yet, but I will post once I get my supplements and try them out for a bit).  Hope that helps some.

Vit D....I have been on that for a few years but with no real benefit.  I have recently switched to the powder form because I have discovered that we can absorb that better than the gel/oil type if we have gallbladder issues (I have stones).  But I think my low E if more than 'just' low D.  (for me).

Its nice to see so many people on the boards in NJ.

My guy's in Canton...you go to the end of the Turnpike, and then thru Pennsville, then Salem, then wind around the marshes....and there he is!!!     Where is your town near?
What do you take for your Vit D....  I KNOW it sounds crazy, but i take 50,000i.u. of Dry D  3 x a day.....  and I'm barely keeping my levels above 32....   there's also some D in my Calcium, and my multivites...but I don't count that....
The NJ  OH board is kind of slow....  but the specific surgery boards get more posts....   Hope you like it here!  Welcome!   Mary

Hey Mary - I was over on the Barix forums for the last 2 years, but the boards seem to be dying out so someone suggested I try OH! I'm just coming up on my 2 year surgiversary (end of April) and I'm doing well - wish I were better, but don't want to whine and complain. Biggest problem right now is lack of energy - but aside from very low vitamin D levels all my bloodwork was great. So I'm not sure what the problem is.  I'm not losing any more weight, but I'm not gaining either - and I'm happy with what I eat and the amounts - which is always where I wanted to be before surgery! So where's your guy from waaaayyyy south Jersey? Maybe I know him!?!?!?

This group meets once a  month. Click the link above for more information. Also Tom Casola, who is also on the NJ board, has a very comprehensive list of groups and meetings throughout the state.

Hope this helps!

I feel your pain, woman.  I am 6 years post-op myself.  I lost 160#s in the first 2.5 years then maintained for another year or so.  In the past 2 years I've regained about 60#s.
I am part of a great support group run by my surgeon's practice in Mercer County.  I am sorry that is so far away from you.
Is there a nutritionist that specializes in post-bariatric surgery issues near you?  That would be my first stop, before the surgeon again.
Good luck in your search.  Let me know how things go.

How often does this group meet?  Every week?  Is it for all post op patients?  I am 10 years post op and am looking for support especially about regaining weight.

Topic: 10 years post op-need advice / nutritionist
I had gastric bypass surgery almost 10 years ago.  I lost about 120 lbs.  In the last 8 years I have gained about 50 lbs.
I have felt very much like a failure over the last 5+ years, gaining the weight. I know I have not followed a lot of the "instructions," that are given about wls in the recent years. Because of this, I have not maintained communication with my wls surgeon.  I feel like I can't face him.
I began researching weight gain after wls and have since found many people who have had a similar experience, and that has helped me to feel less alone.
So, my question is basically...I would like to sit down with someone very knowledgeable about the surgery and its effects to determine how I can get back on track.  I assume I am looking for a nutritionist.  Can anyone out there recommend someone in the Morris County area?  I wonder what effect the surgery has had on my metabolism, and is that why I am not able to lose much weight when I count my calories, and / or do weigh****chers?  Obviously, I know my pouch has stretched.  Is there any way to, non-surgically, help me re-use it as a tool?
I have been reading about people who have had lap-band surgery after gastric bypass, and I am not sure this is for me.
I think I am finally ready to call my surgeon, Dr. David Ward, but I don't really know why I would even see him, as I don't think I want to go down the surgery road again.  Maybe he can help, I don't know.  He was wonderful, its not that.  I just feel like, "For crying out loud, I ALTERED MY INSIDES," and I still can't lose weight??
For a while I thought maybe I need a therapist who specializes in food addiction.  I am not sure what I need.  If there is anyone out there who can show me the right direction, or send along some referrals, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you.
