Not doing a Sleep Study?

Well congratulations on getting your date Marianne. I was just alittle concerned because most people on here had to do a sleep study. Now I am finding out that there are a few who didn't and everything worked out just fine. Please keep me posted on your journey. I will be praying that everything goes well for you. How are you dealing with the waiting game? I think I need some Valium to take off the edge. My mind is working over board non stop. I am trying to get so many things done for no reason. Its not like I am going on a far away trip, but I am constantly planning and obessed with not leaving anything undone. It seems ridiculous but I can't put my mind at ease, even at night I am unable to put my mind to rest I am constantly thinking about what I need to get done before the day, things that do not even have anything to do with the surgery. How do I stop my mind from wondering, racing...etc Any one going/went through the same thing week before surgery? Please offer some advice on how I can relax my mind. Thanks

BiGChyck Hey again : ) I would encourage you to talk to your regular doctor, your general practictioner (hey I cant spell :P) or internist that you see for other things, for a referral for a sleep test. I have severe sleep apnea, and my country doctor referred me. Depending on your insurance, try to see if you can get one done. One word of wisdom: What I have learned is ... select a surgeon that you feel confident about in your surgery... and that you trust. BUT.. realize that each surgeon is a specialist... do they know what sleep apnea is? YES. Are many qualified to talk knowledgably about sleep apnea? YES. but sometimes... on some co-morbidities, follow your instincts. Sometimes (not pointing fingers.. just my observation) a surgeon or doctor will not know about an issue, or dismiss it because, in their opinion, it doesnt apply. Surgeons are people.. and sometimes they err. Often if they do make a mistake, its about something more exotic (like sleep apnea) or such, that is not technically in their field. Remember... sleep apnea is a issue that has a relatively short life span, in the 70s and 80s it was largely unheard of as a issue... many surgeons are sharp and technically up to date across the medical field.. others keep up in their field... but dont know that much about other specialties. For example.. some surgeons swear by Laproscopic surgery... others see it as voodoo... or dismiss it with disparaging comments. GO FIGURE. Ya know? So... I would encourage you... if for no other reason than piece of mind, to get a sleep study before surgery. If you dont, it likely is not a major issue, but it sounds like you have legitimate questions and knowing would ease your mind. Hang in there Godspeed Hugs Timmy Ray : )
