Katrina-What do the children need?
HI everyone!!
I am going to be attending a meeting with my son and the meeting is about a project to help the children of Katrina that have lost everything and will not be able to attend school for quite a while. Can anyone please give me some ideas as to what these children may need, besides the obvious things? I want to bring some good quality ideas to the table, something that will really benefit the children there.
Also can anyone give me some good, fun, creative ways that 5th and 6th graders can raise money for the cause too? Thank you all in advance for all of the suggestions and I hope that in our small way here, we can help out abundantly!!
Thank you all,
Allie from Texas
Allie,
I have been thinking the same way that you are...What can we do? The kids might be able to hold a back yard carnival/fair. They could just have some games; darts breaking balloons; a bean bag toss into a board with holes cut out, painted like clown faces etc. plastic horse shoe toss; if you know anyone who has a pony, you could do pony rides... Prizes...maybe a local dollar store or Party City, Dept. store etc. may be willing to donate inexpensive toys. This was done in our community for a child with cancer. I was a collector of beanie babies and had about 100 or more left at my home, I gave them to kids to use as prizes.
I would call the local chapter of the Red Cross and ask what is most needed for the children, I'm sure they could give you some good ideas.
Allie, I think what you're doing is wonderful, especially the involvement of the 5th and 6th graders. My daughters corporation has collected money from employees and family and friends of employees and whatever they collected will be matched by the corporation.
I'd love to know what you decide to do and how you make out. I'm always open to new ideas to help with a good cause.
Good Luck,

Oh Fran, I wi**** were my idea! I'm just going to participate in the meeting to come up with ideas but it just started a fire burning in me when I thought about all the kids and how they WON"T be able to go to school.......some of them........let alone the ones who have lost it all. Thanks for all of your ideas!! I'm gonna be "loaded" at the meeting!
