Someone please advise me the difference between the Long Limb procedure Dr. Abkin preforms and the Rouxen-Y. My insurance company Highmark BC/BS won't cover the Long Limb Gastric Bypass and I want to use Dr. Abkin because he appears to be the most experience out of Morristown. Please Help.... I finally made the decision to do this and the insurance company says I can do the Rouxen-Y but not the Long Limb.. What about it is experimental/investigational..

They are the same thing. Long limb refers to the amount that is bypassed. 75-100 cm is proximal or short limb and 150cm or more is considered distal or long limb. Some surgeons use the short limb for lighter weights and long limb for their heavier patients. Other docs have a preference for one or the other. I don't know what information your insurance co. has, but perhaps they are confused with a BPD-DS? The surgeons office should be able to give you/insurance the rny gastric bypass code. irene
