I'm going in for my initial consultation. I'm more than 100 pounds overweight and I have diabetes. I was wondering if anyone has advice on what I need to say to help get approved from my insurance company. I am also a snorer! Thanks

Hey Cindy Have you ever gone for a sleep study? If you are a snorer then it is possible that you may have sleep apnea. This is a major factor with insurance! nine times out of ten if you have sleep apnea you will be approved. I was approved for my surgery within two weeks. I go for my surgery next month. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Jaime

Cindy: If you're 100 over ideall body weight, then your BMI islikely over 40, which means that that woould qualify you without other comorbidities. However, you will need a sleep study to determine if you have sleep apnea, as well as, other medical issues, such as arthritis or painful joints, shortness of breath, chest pains, etc. My insurance company was a pain, I had to retrieve medical records from 14 years ago to prove clinical information that I had been on other physician supervised weight loss plans. Therefore, you may want to get this information in order, along with a history of any prescription weight loss medication. You will also need to list any and all other commercial weight loss programs that you have tried, the more the better. Also, if you could get letters of medical necessity and support from your PCP and other specialists, that would assist your surgeon in obtaining approval. Hope this is helpful.
