I am so bummed! I was told today that I have to have 6 months of supervised dieting. Now I will have to wait until at least June. :-(

Has anyone ever been able to shorten this period and get it done sooner??? This is so discouraging.

No, it seems pretty standard.  Many people have to do it.  But it goes fast.  Hang in there.
Just make sure whoever supervises you knows how to document it correctly like the insurance wants it. So you aren't deleayed further.
Good luck

something else, use the time to start going to a support group
come to the nj gathering...looks like feb 8th
it gets you excited and in the right frame of mind
unfortunately they don't cut your brain, just stomach LOL
support groups help you fight the bad habits that got us here in the first place
at least for me
i made some fabulous friends at my support group
we don't speak often outside of the support group but i know i can call or email if i need anything

I know it is disappointing but my advice is to keep coming to this site and read and read.  Then you will be so much more well informed and know what to expect after surgery. It does go fast.   I was thankful I had to wait because I learned so much more about the surgery than if I had it when I first decided to.

I had to do the 6 month spv diet as well and I used the time to research constantly on WLS

The only time I have seen anyone get around this is when they are paying directly for the surgery... not the insurance company. Most insurance companies require this.

Good Luck and think of it as a time to get in those last supper foods.

I had been to so many doctors and been on so many of their "supervised" programs before seeking WLS. They determined the last one was close enough (I think it was within 2 years) and they put me through...Honestly, when the surgeon's office called, I thought it was to tell me what the next step in the process had to be; but she was calling with a date!

Please do not get discouraged. I too had to wait and it went by so fast. I have not been scheduled yet, but I am getting closer. You can do it! Much luck...

Hi,
i am working on my 6 months now and it does go by fast, u have alot to do in between, lots of doctors and test and make sure u go every month for ur weigh in. Can I ask what insurance u have? I have Horizon NJ, once u go to ur surgeon he give u a list and let u know who and why u have to see these doctors. Please do not get discourage just go with the flow,I also took the 6 months as to learn all I can about the surgery and lifestyle that I will be doing. I bought books ,found websites ,talked to lots of people. Have fun the next 6 months and it will go fast if u look at it as it will never come then it will take longer. I did get depressed the first 2 months but thats when I started reading and talking and going to meetings. We are having a meeting on Feb 8th,come to it,u learn alot and u get to ask questions and meet people that have had it done. If you need anything or just a person to talk to email me at [email protected] . Im usually on the computer doing something ...Again think postitive not negative..It will go by fast.... I still dont have a surgery date cause I still have 2 more weigh ins...
