Hi, my name is Karen.  I got RNY from one of the top bariatric surgeons in NJ.  My mom now wants lap band, but doesn't want to travel to my surgeon.  A new program at a local hospital opened up and the Dr's names are Dr. Strom and Dr. Jonathan Reich.  My mom went to see Dr. Reich today. He is brand new to the area but apperently has done 1,000 bariatric surgeries in North Jersey.  She set up a date with him today for june 19, he sounded reputable, I could not go with her because I had a final but I gave her questions to answer, and he answered them all correctly.  I was just wondering if anyone knows about him, or knows someone whos had him.  I'm just worried about my mom.  His info is not on OH and I have not found anything about him on a google search.  Thanks a lot!!!

hi.  Dr. Reich and Dr. Strom are my Dr's.  Dr. Reich will be performing the lap band surgery on me in April.  From what I understand, he had his training in an Ohio clinic and then went to work for Dr. Strom in  his Montclair NJ office.  I believe Dr. Reich is the main Dr in the Manahawkin office.  The office staff ( Kim and Tina ) are excellent.  As far as his experience, no he does not have as much as some other Dr's in the state, but he has had the same training and has performed numerous surgeries, just not at SOCH yet......I am all done with my requirements, and just have nut. visits to finish.  The whole procedure so far has proven to be a positive one for me, the office girls have  helped with getting needed appointments for pre insurance requirements and also help with questions and concerns.  I'm confident that your mom is in good hands!!!!

The thing I am more worried about is the hospital itself, b/c SOCH, from what i have heard, has a high rate of infection after surgery from poor after surgery care.....but this has nothing to do w/ the dr's, and if she knows this going in, then she can make sure all nurses do their part so this doesn't happen....

I just met with Dr. R last week.  I enjoyed my office visit, and from what I have read and seen at the seminar he is very qualified.  I will be having my surgery in May and it will be done in the hospital where their north jersey office is because I have medicare.

I just found your post and sent you a message, but wanted to comment on the boards for anyone else. I am a patient of Dr Reich"s and am scheduled for surgery on May 22nd. Dr.Reich trained at the Cleveland Clinic which is the gold standard for training, not just some Ohio Clinic. He has done numerous surgeries in North Jersey and saw a need for this in South Jersey and I am so glad he did! He is compassionate and professional and caring. His office Staff bend over backwards for you,Thank you Kim...Theywalk you through everything and make this journey as pleasant as possible. They have a new Nut gal, who is a doll, Hi Ginger... I have also had some procedures done at SOCH and have never had a problem. Good Luck to your mom, perhaps we will meet.
