Iron low help surgery soon, Help
help me out here -- do you know what your HEMOGLOBIN number is?? or is that the one that is a 6?? if your hemoglobin is a 6 then the surgeon should NOT do surgery on you -- it will be dangerous -- how long ago did you have your bloodwork done?? are your numbers low due to medication?? or another illness??
i went thru low hemoglobin due to medication -- my lowest was 7 -- i have done extensive research on Anemia -- if you have any questions you can email me or post back here
a normal range for HEMOGLOBIN is 11 - 15
the lowest it should be for surgery is no lower than a 10
good luck and let me know

Before my first surgery my iron levels were low. The PCP immediately had me take iron supplements for two weeks and that did the trick. Check with your PCP or surgeon, you don't want to fool around with any problems this close to your surgery. I am sure you will be able to get them to were you need to.

Are you talking about your IRON, or your HEMOGLOBIN? If your hemoglobin is 6, you need to get a blood transfusion right away! If your iron is low, 15 is still too low, it should be at least 45 (well, it depends on what units the lab is using). Low iron should not prevent you from having surgery - but you will need to be on iron supplements almost immediately afterward, and probably for the rest of your life!
