I am sorry to hear that this surgeon is requesting money even though the insurance has approved and guaranteeing his payment. He has authorization as well as he accepts the insurance knowing what his payment limits are therefore he should not be requesting any additional payments from his patients. Most doctors have a relationship with the insurance companies and a contact. Lastly, IF AND I MEAN IF your did pay 2000 bucks...when will you be refunded and what is the criteria for a refund....is this in writing... Yes, post the surgeons name. I know peopel who had surgery at Hackensack and never mentioned this policy. This sounds like an ethical issue. Also, why are they refusing you to speak with the surgeopn and stating it is a billing issue. He should be willing to speak about any and all aspects of his surgery process including liining his pockets!!!He is selecting his assistant are you going to have the opportunity to meet this assistant? or get the name before surgery?? Oh, was there mention during your initial consult about fees on top of insurance coverage??????

I had lap RNY at Hackensack Medical with Dr. Schmidt and did not have to pay one cent up front. As a matter of fact, I left the first surgeon I saw because he wanted so much money ahead of time. While it did postpone my surgery a few months, it was well worth the change of surgeons. I would recommend you look into other surgeons. JaneE
