Hey girl, good for you!!! Keep us informed of how you are doing. How long are you going to be there? I know it has been a long road for you, but kudos (big kudos) for hanging in there and not giving in.
Topic: RE: New here and confused
Hi,
Well, as usual, I thought I would put my two cents in also. I too was very afraid of RNY, and because of my job, I did not have a whole lot of time off for recovery. I had basically decided on the band from the beginning. Actually, going through Jeff Wagner's classes solidified my decision to go with the lap band. He told us that given enough time, anyone, band or RNY could eat enough food to "eat around" the tool that we chose. I knew that I would not be successful unless I changed my eating habits, and learned self-control. It has been very difficult, I have serious issues with emotional eating. I knew that behavioral changes were the key for me. Remember, whether you choose the band or RNY, you will have to learn new behaviors, because at some point in time, you will be able to eat just about anything. I know my choice was the right choice. Although I still struggle with emotional eating, it is no where near what it was two years ago. I am almost two years out, I have lost a total of 67 pounds. I have maintained that weight loss for over a year. It has been, and will continue to be a struggle for me to lose my last 25 pounds, but my quality of life has improved dramatically, I have been off high blood pressure meds for over a year and a half, and I am learnint new behaviors every day.

Hang in there. I believe stress magnifies the effects of shingles, so just worry about getting through this, then take the next step, and the next. Follow what you heart tells you to do. Just take it one day at a time, and one step at a time. Do not be afraid to ask questions. Many of us here have gone through the same fears, excitement, apprehension and a myriad of other feelings.
Topic: RE: Dr's note to order a Child's Meal
I asked for mine when I saw Dr Gens in Nancy's office. They give you alittle blue card. Just ask and you will get one. :)

I have heard of some surgeons giving out a card saying you have had the surgery and can only eat child"s meals I am not sure if Dr. Gens does anything like that? I can ask Nancy when I go in on Thursday. Glad to see you are doing so well.

Yes It doesn't make me not want to go through with it, it's just some stuff you here after the fact that I didn't know about could arise! It sure will make me ask questions. It's hard I have 2 yr old twins at home and a busy 9 yr old. I hope when it's my journey I will have smooth sailings! I had 2 C-sections so I'm not afraid of surgery I just want a quick recovery for my kids sake! Now if I could just drop these stupid lousy 10 lbs! GEE WHIZ
OH and on top of it I just got diagnosed having SHINGLES ! GREAT that's all I can say not happy about it, it hurts like hell and the pain meds I'm no having me eating because I feel sick if I don't have food in my belly! I'm super screwed!

HOPING TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY! EAGER TO MEET PEOPLE IN MY POSITION!

I know it sounds scary to both of you, but remember, those you know who have had problems are only a small portion of the people who have actually had weight loss surgery. I know so many in our group who have had no problems with their surgery and recovery, and are eating well, and right, taking their supplements and losing weight. All too many times we focus on the bad things we hear. There are hundreds of us out there who have had the surgery, feel great, and have no problems. Things will happen, but my philosophy is that you will develop more problems and potential health issues if you do not have the surgery including illnesses and problems relating to diabetes and other morbidity issues. So don't let a few people who seem to be having problems sway you against the surgery. Many people will agree that it is/was the best thing they ever did.
Topic: Dr's note to order a Child's Meal
Hi,
My husband and I eat out often and I will usually order a child's meal (and still only eat a 1/4 of it, if that), for the first time last night a waitress told me that I needed a Dr's note to order a kids meal.
Has anyone had this happen to them? I was out with 20 co-workers for a 25th anniversay celebration and was very diappointed by this, I did not want to pay for a full adult meal knowing that I would only eat a few bites.

I am a bit skeptical too. A friend of mine had the WLS back in October. She has been in and out of the hospital and just got home from emergency surgery from a bowel obstruction. She also has ulcers. On the other side, I already have a hernia and makes me think I'll get another one after having this one repaired. Doesn't paint a pretty picture for those of us who are at the beginning of this journey.
