Topic: New here! and have got some questions...
Hi! I've been thinking about weight loss surgery the past 4 years or so, specifically the lap band. I'm 27 and around 375lbs. I've finally come to admit that I need help and I cant lose this much weight on my own.
First things first though, I moved to Manchester 3 years ago... and still dont have a primary care doctor. I dont even know how to go about finding one, Ive had the same doctor in vt since I was born.  Do I have to see a primary care doctor before seeing a weight loss specialist? I was going to register for the meetings at dartmouth hitch**** in Manchester but I'm completely lost and overwhelmed.

I have Mvp healthcare and when called they told me surgery is covered by insurance.

any advice on how to start this ball rolling is greatly appreciated!
sorry I'm so all over the place!

Topic: 75 lbs down and life changes
I am now 174 lbs w/a loss of 75 lbs. 14 more lbs to go to reach my goal of 160 lbs. Running like a maniac and dealing with lots of personal issues, but the running is helping me emotionally. There have just been so many changes this past year, some good some not so good and now it's time to weed through them. Who knew loosing this much weight would make such a difference in your personal life.

Highest weight: 249
Date of Surgery Weight 7/20/2009 : 229

Topic: New CMC Surgeon
Has anyone met the new surgeon at CMC? Has she operated on anyone that visits here? I have heard so much about Dr. Campbell i was wondering if anyone had insight on the new doctor.
Thanks.

Dave, We did speak last night.  You need a new pic - that one doesn't do you justice!  & You are right, it is all much less scary & intimidating when you know what to expect.

Thanks to everyone for the support & info.  It is great to know there are people to turn to for extra info, insight, hints & support, both online & in person.

Here's to being at the POST-op group next month!

Congrats,  I am sure all will go well and you will be on the losers bench soon.  Take care of you and remember to breath.  I also recommend the  Reki treatments both pre-surgery if you are the later in the morning and after surgery!! Trust me it helps!

You may be only one person in the world, but to someone you are the world

Topic: RE: pre-op diet
In Portsmouth they didnt really have a pre-op diet. The day before surgery was a liquid day but other than that the only diet restrictions were what you put on yourself to get down to surgery weight. For me it was high protein and fiber and little surgar. Even after surgery I still wont eat anything with more than 9g of sugar (except fruit and yogurt) despite the fact that with the band, I could.
I remember somone in the program mentioning the program doing the diet like this was beacuse (1) it got you into the habit of eating right that you w ill need to do for the rest of your life and (2) beacuse if you do a 2 week liquid diet you become pretty weak, and they want you strong for surgery.

If you are getting it done at CMC I would check with the program there and see what they have for a pre-op diet, it could be different from Portsmouth.

hope that helps!!

Topic: pre-op diet
I am going through the program at CMC and I was wondering what the pre-op diet was. Is there a place to find the pre-op/post-op diets published? I would like to get prepared in advance if possible. I am a lap bander. Do we need to do the liquid diet for 2 weeks prior? I understand the post op stages but was hoping there was something in writing I could use as a guide so I could start sampling things now and stocking up. Thanks. D
