I'm Home, too!!
Hi everyone - I just wanted to let you all know that I'm home and doing fine. Surgery was 4/4/ at 7:30 AM. Hubby finally got to see me at around noon (needless to say, I was really out of it - those drugs, you know). I was up walking at around 2 and sat in the lounge chair for a couple hours after my walk (I dozed). That was pretty much my first day.
Second day was pretty uneventful - took several walks and sat up a good deal of the day. I had very little pain and did not find it necessary to use the little pump thing they give you.
I went home Thursday, 4/6 in the late afternoon. Friday I mostly tried to figure out how to get stuff down because I'm NOT HUNGRY in the least and it is really a chore to eat. I can't tell when I'm full so I only eat the recommended amounts from the sample meal plan my surgeon sent me home with. I'm on full liquids till I see my surgeon for my first post op visit which is set for 2 weeks from my surgery date.
Can anyone out there tell me how much protein you were able to get in the first few days. I did just awful yesterday...only 10 grams! I couldn't get down that shake to save my life. It tasted awful. Today I'm doing better - already have 25 under my belt and it is still before 2 pm.
Anyway, it is good to be home and I'm doing just fine.
Bonnie
Welcome Home!!! I'm so glad that the surgery went well & you are feeling fine. I can't wait until we meet. I won't be at the 4/11 support meeting--because that's my surgery date!! - - but I do plan on attending the May meeting. So maybe we will meet then.
Take care of yourself. Wishing you a happy, healthy, uneventful recovery!

Hey Bonnie-- welcome home! (gentle hug). I found mixing my own protein powder drinks were much easier than anything pre-mixed. Also the Doctor Atkins Vanilla isnt bad if it's on ice. But Barix clinics has a store for a brand of protein powders with many flavors and that dissolve immediately and taste very good. I think at first I might have only gotten 40-50 the first day or two but after that I could consistently get in my goal of 67. Each scoop of protein powder is 20-25 grams so they help immensely. The dietician let me taste a few before I left PA and I could also see how well they dissolved. If you (or anyone else) are interested email me and I will send you the site for their "store".
Hang in there-- as I said the first 3 weeks were the most challenging, after that it's been MUCH easier.
Blessings
Valerie
Welcome Home!!!
I was on 2 oz of Glucerno (my surgeon had me on that because of my diabetes and since they had taken me off my meds they wanted to make sure I was not getting in any sugars), it wasn't too bad the chocolate is pretty good, had to do that 3 times a day. I don't think I was getting in much protein but he was not concerned about that he just wanted to give my stomach some time to heal.
By the time I had my 2 month check up I was only getting in about 40 grams of protein a day (He wanted me at 60), he told me it was not a big deal that it will come in its own tme and I will be able to get more down, I just have to remember as more food is added, I need to exercise more. He was right at 5 months now I can definately get in all my protein with no problem.
Good Luck and glad to hear everything went well.
