I have the Best Doctor
Hello All,
Well got home late last night but had a great weekend. It started Friday morning when I met my sister to go shopping, went back to her house and we went through her clothes she gave me all her thin clothes she can't wear anymore, I have three lawn bags full of clothes for me to get into some I can now and some I hopefully will by summer.
Got out and hiked on Saturday and Sunday, then Monday morning was my appointment with my Doctor. Now I have been seeing Commander Mullen once a month for the last couple of years, that was their requirement since I had diabetes I had to go every month. The last time I saw her was in November before my surgery.
I got to the Navy Hospital, checked in and the young man called my name right away. As he was taking me back to the exam room he was telling me how gorgeous I look (I was a little thrown off because I hadn't met him before), but then when we get in the room he starts to tell me how he wanted to pull my name, because all Commander Mullen has been saying all morning when she saw her schedule, Jennifer is coming in and she can't wait to see her. This gentleman is in the Navy, and is a large man, he wanted to take me back because as we were doing my vitals he is thinking about doing the surgery and had a lot of questions.
So after he is done my Doctor comes in and hugs me and tells me that I look great. We go over everything and she tells me that I am doing awesome and she told me that she is so proud of me that we have been through a lot in the last couple of years trying to get my blood sugar under control and she is very happy that there are no signs of the diabetes. I confessed that we moved to New Hampshire (didn't want to lose her as my Doctor and have to get a new Doctor at the Navy Shipyard up here), she said that is fine and she would rather me come back to see her if I don't mind the drive.
All and all it was such a great appointment, I left there on cloud nine I just felt so great, I have had horrible Navy Doctors over the years, I have been yelled at to the point of crying hysterical that I had to sit in my car for a half an hour to calm down, and then I got Commander Mullen a couple of years ago and this woman saved my life.
Blessings,
Jennie
Isn't it a miracle that one kind, caring person can make all the difference in the world? I am a nurse, and worked for 5 years in a psychiatric hospital. I learned that people almost never change their behavior by being yelled at and shamed; they change when someone truly cares about them and gets in there with them and supports them; but also maybe a little tiny bit of tough love AFTER you have created the supportive and caring relationship; and it is done GENTLY and with great care for the person's welfare. I'm so glad for you that you found someone who could do that for you!! Shame on those screaming fool navy doctors. Seems like they dont know how to deal with civilians.
Blessings

You know it is funny because they where always mean to me when I was by myself, I refused to go by myself anymore, so when my Husband would come with me all of a sudden they are as sweet as pie. But my really tramatic time he was out to sea and couldn't do anything (I swear that awful awful Doctor knew he was gone and took advantage of me). But I guess I was not the only one to complain he was transferred after only 6 months, which normally they are there for at least 3-4 years.
