Hello everyone I am new to the room. here is a little bit about me I grew up in Nashua and Live in Rollinsford NH (next to dover) now. I am going to get my surgery done in nashua however. I am married and have three small kids. I am starting the initial process after two years of flip flopping weather I would actually do it or not. I am going to my Seminar thingy on Sept 6th and then my first meeting on the 7th in nashua. I am very nervouse! I hear people talk about pre op weight to loose how much is that usually? I am very interested in talking to anyone who is going through the process or has completed it. I have millions of questions as I am sure most of you have. This looks like a great site! Again like I said i just wanted you all to know i joined and introduce myself Hope to hear from you all!!!

Hi Jason, Welcome. I had my laproscopic RNY july 19, in Nashua at southern nh medical center. I was in the program for over 6 months before my surgery and it all went pretty smoothly. I had to lose at least 15 pounds for insurance purposes, but every surgeon is different in what they require. You have a low BMI so you may have to lose a few pounds or you might not have to lose any. It pretty much up to your surgeon. Feel free to ask any other questions you have. That's what we're here for.

I have read so many things online some say 1 in 50 die during surgery some say you cant walk or move for days after. It is hard to guage what are oold stories and what is recent. Can you tell me a little about your experience how you felt after what it was like. How much weight have you lost since the surgery? It is hard to believe I am actually starting the process been talking about it for so long....

I don't know where you found that info. I'm glad I didn't find it before surgery or else I wouldn't have done it!! The chance of dying from surgery is less than one percent now. As for not being able to move, I was out of bed the very next day and walking around no less. I was in the hospital from Tuesday to Friday morning. I had pretty much no pain, except for the gas that had to work it's way out. I hardly used my morphine pump, so that was gone on the 3rd day. I don't really remember much of my first day except waking up in recovery and feeling a lot of pressure in my abdomen. That was from all the gas that they pump in there to make it so they can work with all the laproscopic tools. I had the RNY which is where they staple your stomach, but my surgeon actually separates the pouch from the stomach to be sure that there will never be any disruption in the staple lines. I felt great by the time I left the hospital. The staples in my incisions were a bit uncomfortable but they came out a week later and didn't hurt a bit. I've lost about 17 pounds since surgery, 3 weeks ago, and 45 altogether. I did have a hard time after I came home not being able to eat. It took me a while to accept that I will never be able to eat how I want and that I can't "take it back". I'm still adjusting to only being able to eat a tiny bit and feeling full. Make sure you pay really close attention at your info session. That is where most of your questions should be answered. Every surgeon is different in how they run their program and do things, so if you are left with any questions after, write them down and ask them when you meet with your surgeon. Good luck with whatever you choose. If you have any more questions, let me know.

hi there, I had open rny at SNHMC last Nov 30th. I had my first consult with the doc July 29th, 04 - so it's just 1 year since I started in the program. I had to loose 20 lbs before surgery, working with the nutrionist makes it easier. You said you're in a program in Nashua, are you at Southern NH or St. Joes? best wishes diane

Good luck with the process.... I havent heard anything about St. Joes program but know first hand how wonderful Dr. Drinkwaters program is!

Hello, I am also involved in Dr Browns program. I have gone through the seminar and right now waiting to do the pre op testing. The support meeetings are great. I am planning on doing the Lap band with him. I do know he requires you to maintain your weight. He is great though. good luck and hope to see you at the support meetings.

Hi Jason I had my surgery with Dr. Drinkwater, 6 months ago yesterday. I'm down 65 pounds since surgery (about 108 since this time last year...not sure because I couldn't find a scale to weigh myself on that went that high). I had no problems, a little discomfort but no real pain and am doing great! I feel like a different person. My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago. I did have to lose 25 pounds pre-op (because I was so heavy) but was glad to do it...that was 25 less that I have to lose now. Good luck with your journey! Welcome to the boards...the NH one isn't really active but we try! Bye for now, Judy
