A brief introduction...

Greetings. I've been lurking around this website for a long while reading about the experiences of other folks. I have completed my necessary tests in anticipation of having gastric bypass.The doctor's office has all of my info so hopefully it wont take too long to proceed. Weight issues have been a constant for me & after much fluctuation with my weight I feel that this is the way for me to go. I have all of the fears about such a major surgery but in the end I think I'll be glad I made this decision. I work as a nurse & I live with my 4 beautiful cats. I have a good group of friends & family that will help me through the rough patches. peace, Pam

Welcome Pam. I am mostly a lurker here too. It sounds as if I am in the same process as you. I am waiting to hear from Cigna. I should know early next week if the insurance has approved me or not for the surgery. I have the same anticipation as you do. I have never had any surgery before at all, but this is the best choice! Hi Heidi, Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, we are kind of in the same boat. The only surgeries I've had are orthopedic ones but this seems like a much more intense surgery. I wish you the best of luck & I hope you'll be approved quickly for your surgery. Pam

Hi Pam, Welcome and best of luck. I had my surgery Feb 2002 and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I went from 238 pre-op (215 day of surgery) to 125 and I feel great. I also was afraid, but when it took me nine months to lose the 23 pounds pre-op, I took it as a sign that I could never do it on my own. I don't own enough will power. Also, I knew as soon as I went back to eating normal, I would gain it all back and then some more for good measure.
