I am from Newport NH and i have a Doctor that will not go for me to have the lapband or anything and I need some advice all please and some help on what i can do and should do.? I really think that my Doctor believes that I don't need NO kind of surgury in her eyes I beleive. She is also saying I should contact my insurance company to find out the details and what needs or should be done and if they will cover such a procedure. She started saying I will need to show her that I am up to the challenge. Well, I always thought my family DR responsibility was to refer you to a general surgeon for something like this and the general surgeon is the one that gives you the forms to fill out and does his medical evaluation and physicological evaluation and would determin if ( I ) would make a responsible patient and to qualify for this kind of procedure. Anyone know of a good Doctor that would work with me on helping me get my referral please help me out. thanks !! Just so you all know, I am looking to get the Lap Band Procedure done. She is acting like she is the one to determin if I qualify or not for the the procedure and I believe she does not want me to have this done and believes i can lose the weight if I just get off my butt. I am on disability for some Physicological reason the past 5 years or so and yes I have tried different things to lose weight and have lost some weight but then will gain all the weight right back and then some. She seems to not understand and with my health problems and my issues with my Disability and the things I don't have wrong with me, I would be of high risk because of my weight and my family history. List of things with me or in family. OBESE ( 320 LBS) 6 ' 36 YEARS OLD High blood pressure High Cholesterol Depression/anxiety Enlarged liver from being over weight. Asthma Lower back pain/ back pain Chronic tiredness all the time Knee Pain Sleep Apnea ???? ( Potential risk for Diabetes ) ???? ( Potential risk for Angina ) heart disease ???? ( potential risk for cancer. ) I am sure there might be other things but for now that is what i have came up with. My depreswsion/anxiety is standing in my way doing and trying and kind of weight lost exercise. I believe this will help me medically and mentally and just maybe this is what i need to help me out to get myself get off disability. So i can still feel good about myself mentally but also medically more soand make thingsa better and to prevent me from setting anything i don't already habe medically. What can I do if she will not and refuses to help me out with given me a referasl to a general surgeon to be evaluated and which this weight loss procedure will help me in many ways. PLEASE HELP ME OUT ON WHAT TO DO AND TO GET ME INTO AN ENROLLMENT PROGRAMEN. tHANKS ALL AND LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY AND WHAT I CAN Do tHANKS ALL, Ralph

Hi Ralph, I'm originally from NH so I occasionally read these posts, and I have some words of advice for you. First, if your doctor is not supportive of WLS, switch doctors!!! There are plenty who will give you a referral, if you need it. I'm not sure how disability works, but with other insurances you will see a Bariatric Surgeron (you can find the ones in NH right here on this website) and THEY will be the ones to have you see a nutritionist/psychologist/cardiologist, etc, depending on their protocol and your personal situation. As far as the depression and poor self-esteem, a good psychologist will help you overcome/deal with your issues. In order to be success at wls you will need to exercise, so you'll have to get beyond your issues there. I suggest starting seeing someone ASAP, the more work you do on yourself now, the better off you'll be. Sorry for such a long response, and I hope someone from NH responds and goves you better direction as far as Dr's in your area. I'd check this website for Bariatric Dr's in your area and start making some phone calls. Pick a surgeon who has a well-define program that includes a nutritionost and therapist, you'll be relying on them to help in your weight loss success. Best of luck to you!! -Deb M 354(start)/194(lost)/AT GOAL
