Does anyone know of a surgeon not over 2 hour from Rutland, VY that doesn't make their gastric by-pass patients lose weight or document weight loss attempts before they will perform surgery? Thanks for any help. JoAnn

From all that I've read and researched it's not the Dr's requirement it's what the Ins co. requires to insure your a viable canidate, most will require proof from your primary DR

JoAnn, If there is such a doctor out there I would never want to use them! The initial weightloss prior to surgery is for two reasons... 1) Your internal organs (such as liver) will be less stress and healthier prior to surgery with the weight loss. Your body will be under less stress and make it easier for the surgery. 2) This weightloss is your commitment to stay on task. If you can't loose the 10% prior to surgery, how do you expect to keep it off after the initial weightloss window has closed? My surgeon asked about my weight loss attempts and listed them all, but I don't remember much more documentation than that. I know it is frustrating to have to loose the weight prior to surgery, but it is for your success. Your surgeon's office wants you to succeed. And, should have professionals there to help you accomplish this prior to surgery. I worked with the physical therapist and dietician. It was actually easier than I thought...maybe because I was committed to do it because I wanted the surgery that bad.
