I am jealous of other state boards!
Other state boards seem to have a close knit bunch. We've got to get this board moving. Let's introduce ourselves!
My name is Erica and I had Lap Rny Dec 15, 2003. Today is exactly my 9 month anniversary. I think my honemoon is over. My weight hovers and dips, but right now I am up three pounds. I think it might be due to "that time of the month". I am hoping anyways!
I am down 83 pounds. I started out as a lightweight at 5'1" 244lbs. It has not made the losing any easier. In fact, I think it is harder.
Tell me and the board about yourself! Where are you in your journey? Are you happy, discouraged, need support? Let's be here for each other!
Erica
Hi Erica,
I'm Kathy and I had open RNY on 2/10/03. I was also a lightweight. I am 5'3" and started at 215. I have been at 125 (goal) for a while (up and down a couple) but overall quite pleased. I had my surgery done at SNHMC with Dr Drinkwater who I think is fantastic. I just had my 18 month checkup last month and everything is looking good. He warned me that I might gain back a couple of pounds but I told him I couldn't - my clothes wouldn't fit. He laughed - I was serious. I plan on doing everything I can to stay right where I am. It's tough sometimes but well worth it.
Anyone else around?
Kathy
Wow! You are an inspiration to me! How did you manage to lose all that weight? I have been at 161, and I can't imagine getting any lower. What type of diet do you follow?
I just moved from RI to here so I am not familiar with Dr. Drinkwater, but I have heard hime mentioned quite a bit!
I am 9 months out today, and I am hoping to get down to 130.
Hopefully we can get this board moving! Take care!
Erica
I am mostly low carb. I was really lucky. I could eat very little at first so I lost most of my weight within the first 8-9 months. Even now it takes very little to fill me up - about 3 ounces of meat and a couple of mouthfuls of vegetables and I am full. I still can't do pasta and bread. I do do low carb hi protein wraps for sandwiches for work - it's the only bread that works. But that's all I eat for lunch. My problem is snacking after dinner. Still fighting with that.
Where in RI did you have your surgery? My sister lives in Seekonk, right outside of E Providence.
Take care,
Kathy
Hi, This is Diane. About a month into the program. I'm in the program with Dr. Drinkwater also. I've had my first visit with him. Been to the nutritionist a couple of times. In the process of scheduling my psych eval.
If I might ask a question. What weight or size is considered lightweight? Just curious.
It would be nice to have more activity on this board.

Hi Diane,
I think, but I am not 100% sure, but it all plays into your height and weight. I was 5'1" and weighed 244 as opposed to someone my height who weighs 300. I am not sure the exact terms, but i know my surgeon told me I was a lightweight (only time in my life, lol!).
Keep us posted on your journey. I actually just moved up here from RI so I am not familiar with your dr., but I have heard a lot of people mention how wonerful he is. Feel free to ask me any questions!
Talk soon!

P.S. Wouldn't it be fun to get a group of us together to meet sometime from NH?
Hi Erica and everyone else!
I am Denise and also have Dr. Drinkwater. I love him!
I had WLS on 8/11 and at exactly three weeks post-op, I lost 20 lbs. It has been 5 weeks now and I am dying to know my weight. I will get weighed in next week.
I would love to get together with you all. Let me know if you need help coordinating this. I would love it be involved!
Hugs,
Denise
Hi Denise!
Congrats on your great weight loss! Doesn't it feel awesome?!?! It only gets better. The beginning months out of surgery are the best because that is when you lose the most weight. Take advantage of it!
I would love to do a get together. What part of NH are you from? I live in Nashua.
Erica
Hey there.
This is funny because I've checked out a couple of other state boards due to some suspect activity that I had to take a peek at. Anyway, I've checked back here in NH a few times but didn't see any recent posts until now.
I lived in Nashua for 25+ years and now reside in Hudson. I bought my place here about a year and a half ago.
I'm pre-op, going through OC @ SNHMC, Dr. Drinkwater's program. So far, so good although Jayne, the nutritionist, knows I can do better and certainly tells me so. I've had my psych eval with Dr. Yadati, very nice man. I was on the roster for team discussion today, according to Jen the Program Manager and she'll let me know what my next step is. I believe it's Coping Skills Class which is 4 weeks I believe.
There's a support group meeting at the end of the month. I believe it's the 28th but my calendar is upstairs and as a pre-op I'd rather not make the trip. lol Just kidding. I can get the 411 if anyone wants it. Just let me know.
I'm 5'4 and weigh 290 I believe, right around there. I've lost 10 of the 20 recommended.
I am divorced with a 9 y.o. son and a cat named Mr. Big. Yes, a Sex and the City fan.
Peace ~ K
Hi Erica,
My name is Patti and I am from Epsom. I had surgery quite a while ago, 1998 and unfortunatelly they had not really got into lap surgery at time so it was open. I had it in Boston. I was in the heavy weight end of it. I am 5'7 and weighed in on surgery day at 349! A size 32 pant.....quite a pretty site that was...anyways The first 100lbs went quite fast and then I really had to start dieting....I exercised first by walking right afterwards and then going a womens gym. I stilll struggle with my weight...I think I always will be going to, because the surgery doesn't take the "wants" of the "Susie Q's" away. It was 6 years Aug 8. I am now 5'7...smile....however I now hover between 149 and 155...and 10-12 size....Follow manly a low carb diet , sweets are still my love so I am better off staying right away from them...Your doing great Erica, I am proud of you.. I would love to stay in touch and meet with anyone in N.H. or get the chat room going. Take good care and be proud of your accomplishments...this was a tool and your working it...I am routing for you and everyone else. Patti
