Very Concerned about this news!!!!!!!

Hello all, I just wanted to add a word of caution. I heard on the radio today about a local doctor...General surgeon to be exact who is now offering to do gastric bypass surgery. This is the same doctor who no more than a year ago did a repair on me...I complete chop job I might add (I am still getting infections in the scar line every 2 months and it was a horriable stich up job). As far as the info that I have at this moment, this doctor is not specialized in bariatrics at all he is a general surgeon!!!!!! I am so concerned about the fact that this doctor is now going to be performing the gastric bypass on people. Please be cautioned to interview as many doctors as it takes to find the right one who KNOWS what they are doing. I am hearing more and more about people dieing from having this surgery performed by doctors who are general surgeons and not specilized in the field of bariatrics. I myself interviewed 6 diffrent doactors that offered to do the bypass, and I must say 3 of them we not even bariatric doctors. Please please please make sure that the doctor that you choose has been doing this particular surgery for a number of years...Don't let just any surgeon who offers the bypass to operate on you. I am afraid with more and more people wanting to have the bypass done that there wil be a lot more doctors looking to "cash in on the craze" so to speak. please be careful. If the doctor that you talk to can't answer even one of your questions then you should find another one that can answer them all. Also talk to other people that have had the surgery by that same doctor. Most bariatric surgeons who specilize in bypass surgery have a support group that was put together by the doctor himself/herself. Make sure you ask how long they have been a bariatric surgeon, and what made them decide to specilize in gastric bypass...It is so important!!!!
