Pregnancy after surgery?

I am 32 and weigh 270 lbs. I have been trying to concieve for several years. I went to my GP for a referral for WLS, but he said that I should have the surgery AFTER I have children, because I am getting older. My ob/gyn agreed and said that no research has been done yet to show whether it is safe to get pregnant after having the surgery. It seems backward to me, because I think if I lost weight, then I would be able to get pregnant easier!! Has anyone here who has had the surgery gone on to get pregnant?
