Alcohol
PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH ALCOHOL! I lost a very close friend who became an alcoholic after surgery and mixed it with medication. You will get drunk very fast (within minutes and on less than 1 drink) and the alcoholism rate is high among bypass patients who drink after. They recommend no alcohol for 1 year, and after that be very careful. My husband is almost 3 years out and can get drunk on a shot glass of wine, people think it is funny so they will send him shots if we are out together. Thankfully he doesn't like the way it makes him feel so he does not drink often (maybe 2-3 times a year). Please if you want to talk privately please feel free to message me.
As for caffeine, I do drink 1 cup of regular coffee everyday, this is not recommended and I didn't start until I was almost 8 months out. Carbonated is hard, I do drink soda once in a while, but it is always flat. Carbonation gives me wicked gas pains, it is not fun. Good luck and know we are here if you need us.

Hi,
I don't plan on drinking any alcohol ever. The numbers are just too high for me to take the risk of being in trouble. I also stopped carbonated drink prior to surgery. I'm 3 months out and feel great.
I have had regular coffee the last couple weeks on a few occasions. This isn't something I have on a regular basis.
The caffeine in the coffee is an irritant to the pouch and could cause ulcers.
Well that's my 2 cents...hope it helps...
