Hi everyone its been a while since I have been on. Got my date about 3 weeks ago. December 19 at CMC in Manchester, Merry Christmas to me!! So excited but nervous at the same time.
Everyday I get closer I start to get more nervous. I have waited to so long for this and now its so close I could touch it and I can't seem to get my nerves under control.
Other wise I can't wait. I think the nerves are just getting the best of me, I have nothing to worry about. I think I have just worked so hard for so long and now I am there that its almost surreal to me.
Everyone thinks Im crazy for scheduling the surgery right before Christmas and I think it couldn't have been a better time.
I am trying to get everything ready, I got all my food for this week, I will go shopping again on Saturday to get the rest for next week. The following Saturday I will go out to get my stuff for after the surgery.
Well I guess I will be on here a lot more after surgery since I don't have anyone near me that has been through it before.

Hi Nancy,

To be nervous is a natural occurance prior to surgery, no matter what kind of surgery.  You will be fine!  Which surgery are you having?  I think Christmas is a great time of year for weight loss surgery.  You are celebrating the rebirth of your life!  Some pointers...Make sure you buy and bring chapstick to the hospital with you.  Also, make sure you pack your iPod or MP3 player.  You will enjoy listening to the music more than the sounds of the hospital.  Don't over buy food, some of the things that you are eating now may not appeal to you, or you may not be able to tolerate right away.  Sugar free popsicles are amazing!  You can stock up on those!

The most important thing to remember is that you are not alone.  There are many people around you that have been through this.  We are a click away.  We are all here for you.

If you do not post again before your surgery, I wish you the best.  CMC is a wonderful hospital, and another weight loss patient that I am very close to had her surgery there, and her daughter works on that floor. They will take very good care of you.

Merry Christmas and HAPPY NEW YEAR!  It will be an amazing new year for you.

Hi Nancy,

I just found out this morning I too am going in on Dec. 19th for my gastric bypass!!! I never thought I'd hear the news today...I was thinking it would be after Christmas. I'm nervous also..I never had any surgery or overnight stays in a hospital. Other than stitches...and broken ankle all from ice hockey. I hope next winter I can sign back up for mens hockey!! Good Luck to us!!

Thats fantastic!! I am so happy for you!!

The only thing I am struggling with is the diet. I had done a similar diet for months from February to June but for some reason now I am struggling a bit. I have been able to keep it at 1200 calories but its hard. I don't know if its the nerves getting the best of me. But I think this week is going to be a bit easier. I got some of my sugar free things for after the surgery like, jello, popsicles, and crystal light. Just having those extra little snack that aren't many calories I think are going to make a difference for me.

Good Luck!! Can't wait only 9 days now and we will be starting our new life!!!

I'm on a 1600 calorie diet. I started mine Sept 1st and right now have lost 36 lbs. Every morning I have a protein shake Muscle milk) with a small banana mixed in..and using soy milk. I haven't had any dairy products in 2 months.  No sweets at all.  I also eat fish...chicken or tuna for lunch. No bread. I have sugar free jello pudding for a snack...maybe a low calorie cheese stick (50 cals)

What I think really kept me on track was using "my fitness" on my smart phone. It holds you accountable and you know how many calories you had for the day. Worked for me.

I will say I'm stuck at my current weight now for 2 weeks and it's frustrating.  I know...9 days....wow!!!

 Jodjr,
Thank you for the idea of the calorie counting app... I did n't even think of that. That may help me to stay on track for this last week. O am going to take care of that today...I need to be on track this week not to ruin all the work I have done for this.
Thank you agian.

Congratulations, I just celebrated 1-year and did my pre-op diet thru Thanksgiving and post-op phases during Christmas, thru parties and restaurant celebrations and all. I believe keeping your eye on the prize will help you get there. I tell everyone that I have no more will power than anyone else and probably alot less because I didn't get to my weight loss surgery because I had alot of will power but it became determination. I to had my surgery at CMC and they do have a wonderful staff and the OTC is great. Don't let your nerves get to you and also don't buy alot of stuff. Things I loved before surgery are just ok now and some foods I wouldn't touch before I love so keep all your options open. Good luck and and keep posting.

 Denise,

Thank you for the support. I decided I wasn't going to by anything except for cream of wheat, jello, plain yogurt or strawberry yogurt (which will have no chunchs in it) a few different protein options, and chicken broth. I thought a lot about it and realized I don't know what I will and will not like so I am only going to get a few days worth then go from there.

Thank you for the advise I am grateful, I need all the help I can get right now.

Hi Nancy,

You mentioned Cream of Wheat. I just found that they have a higher protein cream of wheat it has 7 grams vs the normal 3. I know its only 4 grams but every gram counts when your trying to get enough protein. I get mine at Stop-N-Shop. Its right next to the regular.
