Frustrated - Pre Op

I know the process is designed for a reason.. and the length of it is supposed to help but it is making me CRAZY!! Down 6lbs.. have another 14lbs to go.. All but one more lifestyle class (after tonight), psych eval 2/24, and 2 support groups are left!!

Then they can get me an appt with the surgeon.. then approval waiting from insurance... then schedule my surgery!  For a process I was hoping to be done in 6 months... it looks like its going to be much longer!  I wanted to be on the other side of the surgery by Memorial Day so I could be almost done healing by the summer.

Now it looks like I will be spending my summer learning how to eat, get in all my proteins, and dealing with the aftermath.

I just want to be healthy.. and smaller would be a PLUS!!

All in due time, Grasshopper.  Before you know it you'll be almost 2 years out, at goal and the healthiest you've ever been!  You really will get tickled when you see posts like this!

I'll tell you something to concentrate on:  EXERCISE.  I started working out 5x a week for 6 months before my surgery--aerobic and weight training.  That was one of the best things I did--it really helped me breeze through the surgery and the recovery.

We are here for ya!!

I used to LOVE working out, the high I would get during and after was AWESOME!

Now the pain of working out, the feeling of my body resisting me and the work I making it do is enough to make me just say "PHFFFF... ALL SET!!"

Goal for next week - after skiing ALL DAY Saturday is to hit the gym 5 days a week... give myself the weekends to relax.  At least 20 mins of cardio to get my heart thumping and to start kicking these lazy muscles into shape with some weight lifting. I need a cattle prod to get there but once I am there I manage to enjoy it!!

THANKS K!!!!!!!

My knees are old, so I have to take Wed and Friday as my days off!  I've never skied before--sounds like fun!  I mostly run, hike and do P90X.

I promise, you'll want regular exercise to be a main component of your new lifestyle so the sooner the better.  The muscles make the saggy skin look so much better.  Another bonus is your metabolism will be on fire!

This journey is amazing--enjoy the process.  I'm here if you need me!

Kim is right about the exercise. I am 60-days post-op, Realize Gastric Band and when I get to the gym 3-4 times a week I see the pounds drop off and this also happened during my pre-op time and its still really hard not to come up with an excuse not to get to the gym.

Today I hit the "50 pound mark" I am so happy and to celebrate I'm going to the GYM tomorrow morning.

Learning to eat is a chalange and one that will take some time. I'm still trying to figure it all out. Its a long road and you can't ru**** even though you'd like to. I know the feeling.

Definately get to the pre-op support groups. I try and peek in during them. (I work at CMC 3-11 so I can't come for the whole meeting, but I do stop in during my lunch when they are in the hospital.) I still learn something new everytime. I think I heard that the March meeting will be a Protein Shake tasting. This is a very informative meeting because you need those shakes and some taste better than others.

Hang in there the time will fly by and before you know it you'll be there.

it is a very long process that seems even longer because its you doing the waiting but in the long run it will be WELL worth the wait ( pun intended) ... i agree with Kim 2000% in working out i am 12 mos post op and i am 14lbs below goal ( my goal ...33 below surgeons goal) and i think one of the biggest factors is what you do before surgery ... i was going to the gym 6 days a week 2 times a day for the 2 mos pre op so i could make sure that my heart and lungs were in the best shape they could be on the day of surgery..

we are all here to give you a guiding hand, a shoulder to cry on OR a size 13 squire in the butt!!!

Dave

There is no need to look back unless you plan on going that way!

As someone who has come through the CMC program I can say that without a doubt the process is well worth it.  Every little step is thought out and intentional.  I too thought that it was dragging on but in the end my surgery date was here before I knew it (I began in July and had surgery in February....).  You sound like you're on the right track and you're taking this very seriously.  I suggest you keep on complaining right here about how long it's taking because most of us can relate.

Take care and really....it'll be here before you know it!

I know what you mean. I was hoping to have my surgery while my husband was on his 2 week break at the end of March, but now it will probably be sometime in April because of the process. After being disappointed, I changed my view on the whole thing. I believe that the universe or whatever has a better plan for me. I have to learn to not try to control everything and just go with things naturally.

I've changed my attitude so that now I can enjoy his time off with him, instead of him being my nursemaid. We'll get there, in due time.
