Pre-op People
Hello, I am just beginning my journey; I am going trough the Portsmouth program. I am looking to connect with other people that have ideas or strategies as to how to reach my surgery goal weight. I think this is a great forum, but it seems as though most people posting are post-op (very inspirational!). But I'm also hoping to hear from others like me that are pre-op and nervous. Thanks! Xico
Xico,
I am post op, but I understand the nervousness. It is normal and trying to get the pre op weight off was trying for me. It took me almost 8 months to lose the 14 pounds I needed to lose pre-op. But I did do it, and you will as well. You will get through your journey at your time! I had some set backs and tears were shed, but when it happened I was ready for it. I hope this helps and welcome.

Hi Xico,
I am just starting the Portsmouth program. I have my next appt Jan 4th. I'm hoping that I will reach my pre goal weight loss of 18 pounds by that date. I will also start my classes with Dr. Wagner Jan 5th. I'm hoping these classes will be helpful.
I'm not feeling nervous yet. Very anxious to meet my surgeon and get my surgery date.

Hi Reddevil:
Thanks for posting. Good luck with our aapt. on Jan 4th. I still have a way to go on the pre-weight requirement. I struggle with this area but I am glad I am going through the process because I know I will need to be disciplined and have all my "tools" once I have the surgery. Dr. Wagner's classes are very helpful! His style is not lecture style, he is very interactive and lets you ask a lot of questions, He hands out a booklet with lost of helpful tools and tips to stay on course and deal with the technical and emotional stuff that goes with weight loss. I hope you find them helpful. Good luck on your journey too! Glad to be in touch!

Hi,
I am pre-op going through the Portsmouth Hospital as well and am struggling to lose my last few pounds of my goal which is 14 pounds. I have all my pre-op testing done - it is just these last few pounds holding me back from a surgery date.
I will say that up until now I have not been nervous about the surgery but have just recently had a few butterflies about it. I almost feel like the reason I am struggling is because I know that once I lose this weight there is really nothing holding me back. It is scary!
I lost most of my 14 pound goal by following the diet the nutritionist put me on and trying to be more active (like parking further away, taking stairs, etc.).
It helps to have a support system. I am grateful to know about this website. It is nice to know that if you are struggling you are not struggling alone.
Let me know how I can help!
Jen

Hi Jen,
I originally had 17 lbs. to loose but the GAINED 5 pounds after my first meeting with Nancy! Can you believe it, I think I panicked.....anyhow I am down 10 and still have lots to go...I too think I am "blocking" because I am a bit nervous, so I totally get what you are going through with t he last remaining pounds...I am sure you will get there!
The classes with Dr. Wagner helped me get into the right frame-of-mind.
I think for me, I need to add the activity, finding time is hard...I also live in a rural area...no sidewalks, so walking in the winter is a challenge where I live. I posted for some gym buddies in Concord, where I work, and got two replied so hopefully this will motivate me to go to the gym after work.
I would love to stay in touch with you for support....I hope you meet your goal soon!
