NH Medicaid
My sister has medicaid and she's said that you need to go to someplace that has been rated a center of excellence. I know that CMC has recently received this, and I believe she said that was the one in NH. I would call the Obesity Treatment Center at CMC and they would be able to give you more information.
The Portsmouth/Derry group recently became a center of excellence, and is accepting Medicaid from what I have been told. The best way to make sure is to go online or call. The program required me to lose 10% of my excess body weight. I had to lose 13 pounds. Each program is different. Also we were required to meet with the psychologist, nutritionist, physical therapy, attend behavior modification classes, and information session. You must also attend at least one support group meeting.
I went through the CMC program and you do have to lose a percentage of your weight. They want to make sure that you are committed. Also, there are classes to take, you have to go to a psychologist, and there are support group meetings that must be attended. I had my surgery over 2 years ago and it was almost a year from my first visit until I had my bypass.
Hi,
Just wanted to clarify a point made above. The Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Parkland Medical Center program is a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and it does accept Medicare -- but not Medicaid - patients for bariatric surgery. More details about the program can be found at http://ow.ly/2nw9v or by asking several of the regular posters here! Thanks a lot and good luck.

Thanks everyone I am going to pass on the Info, I just think it is crazy to expect someone to loose 70 some odd pounds before surgery , and it breaks my heart because I already had one friend who passed away at age 24 because she was almost 500 lbs and they denied her for surgery and she appealed it , well she died on Monday of lung failure and got approval the friday after , It killed us !! These Insurance companies and soem docs dont understand just how crucial this surgery is for some people to save there lives! So I am trying to help this friend as much as I can so i really appreciate all your help!! I Miss NH people so nice there :(
