Anyone been to CMC for surgery
Remember this is a JOURNEY.
As you learned at the intro session, you will have to attend 2 preop support groups, and the 6 Lifestyles classs. You will also have a number of medical tests to take, meet with the PA, meet with the dieticians, loose a % of your current weight, etc.
But the journey is possible. I had GBP last Tuesday. I was out of bed and had a walk Tuesday evening. I was out of bed at 6am Wednesday & Thursday and by Thursday morning was cleared by PT to walk alone. 2 laps around the area.
But you are a way off from this point. You have 2 choices, wait for things to come to you and possibly have a long time till surgery. OR ask questions, fill out and submit paperwork, get appointments scheduled, attend all sessions ASAP. The more "Proactive" you are the more quickly you will proceed down the journey.
There is NO WAY I can say enough about the OTC staff, the PA's, the dieticians, Dr. Campbell, the nursing staff and the LNA's at CMC. I cannot say Thank you enough. They are ALL a true credit to their professions.
And finally plan how you will be able to take 4 weeks off. Sure you can go back in as little as 2, but this IS a Lifetime Journey and if you do not give yourself the SOLID base to start off with to learn, to become part of your life...You CAN screw this up. As Dr. Campbell said to me the other day...She expects 100% from herself, 100% from her staff and 100% from us her patients. No Less.

You are welcome. The system in place will not let you ru**** is designed to ensure that you are really well educated in not only the surery itself but all that comes after it. But it will not pull you along. You must still take the lead.
I must admit that I have an advantage...My wife had RNY 20 months ago and I have seen all the ups and downs and all that she needs to do. We joke that I was the "pill police" at that time ensuring she got all her water, protein, meds, walks, etc. Now turn around is fair play... She gets to be the pill police! So I am blessed by having a built in support system.
I have found this site (I also monitor the mens only list) very helpful and supportive.
Take care and write any time you have a question or concern.
