Anyone been to CMC for surgery
I finally got up the balls to say I need help. I am going Monday to the information session at CMC Manchester. I dont know what to expect. But I have decided this is what I want and need to help me be health and happy. I am getting bigger and I am not getting any younger and things are getting easier for me. So I would like to know if any of you have been to CMC and if so who was your Dr. I am not sure which one I want to choose. I would like to get a little help on this. If you all don't mind. Thank you!
I had my surgery at CMC and Dr. Connie Cambel was my surgeon. You will have to go to the Obesity treatment center which is across the street from the cmc. Dr. Cambel is fantastic and so is the staff at the CMC. I will tell you that she is very strict and takes her patient's health very seriously and expects her patients to care just as much. Please follow the pre op rules and if you smoke she does test you for nicotine not just once but twice. I would do it all over again and I would choose the same hospital and the same surgeon.

Noel,
Quick question if you don't mind. I was sure I was going to get the lap band but now I am not to sure I want that. How did you choose RNY over Lap Band? How long was the recovery from the RNY? That was a big reason why I was so set on lap band, short recovery, I am a working mom of 3 and the only providor for my family, my husband has been unemployed for 2 years, so I don't want to miss to much work.
Thanks Nancy

Nancy,
I decided to go with RNY because of my high BMI and my diabetes was out of control. Also, I went to the support meetings and heard alot of positive feedback about RNY. I was in the hospital for 3 days because I had a lung problem but most people go home the next day. I wasn't in any pain when I got home but you do have a lifting restriction for 6 weeks. I think that the recovery time is different for each indiviual. Also, keep in mind that you have to have fills with the lap band.

I did not have my surgery at CMC, but I just wanted to say that, with regard to which procedure you should have, you will have the opportunity to learn about both procedures throughout the preop period. Take advantage of that and ask as many questions as you can. Once you have studied both, then it will be time to decide which one to have. I started out definitely going for the lap-band and changed my mind partway through to the bypass. But the decision is personal to you. Just make sure you learn as much as possible about both before making your decision.
Good luck with everything!

I went through the CMC program as well with Dr. Campbell and she was excellent as was the staff at the Obesity Treatment Center. It is great support and they are always there to answer questions or provide a bit of encouragement.
When I started through the pre-op program I was going to have the LapBand, but I kept an open mind throughout the process and ended up having RNY. If you attend the pre-op support groups and even some of the post-op support groups (prior to your procedure of choice) it will give you the opportunity to hear personal stories from many who have already gone through the program.
Good Luck!
