Hi! I've been thinking about weight loss surgery the past 4 years or so, specifically the lap band. I'm 27 and around 375lbs. I've finally come to admit that I need help and I cant lose this much weight on my own.
First things first though, I moved to Manchester 3 years ago... and still dont have a primary care doctor. I dont even know how to go about finding one, Ive had the same doctor in vt since I was born.  Do I have to see a primary care doctor before seeing a weight loss specialist? I was going to register for the meetings at dartmouth hitch**** in Manchester but I'm completely lost and overwhelmed.

I have Mvp healthcare and when called they told me surgery is covered by insurance.

any advice on how to start this ball rolling is greatly appreciated!
sorry I'm so all over the place!

Sounds like you have taken the first step which is to get more information. I actually went to an information session at Catholic Medical Center before even talking with my primary care physician. The next info session is 7-7-10 @4:30 if you can attend. Check out the facebook page for the center as well. just search nhwls on facebook. Best of luck. D

YAY I found a primary care physician! I set up an appt. I haven't seen a doctor in years...
I'll be going to a seminar at cmc on July 19th, I'm guessing the other one was full.
It feels good, scary but good. I feel like I got so much accomplished today!

That is wonderful. It can seem like a long difficult journey at times but listening to the who have gone through it is always inspiring. I have been less social because of my weight and don't as a rule enjoy large groups like you can find at these meetings but it is actually nice to hear other people that are struggling with the same issues that I am and to know I am not alone. The first info. session is ok but the support group meeting are great. They always have post-op patients speak and their stories are enough to give you hope and keep you going. I meet with the surgeon soon and should get a date for my operation. I am hoping to be done with my surgery sometime in August!

Hi there I'm in the same boat! I've made the step and called DHMC in Manchester and started last OCTOBER I'm still in the program but it's been an emotional rollercoaster for me. I've done all the requirements they need of me the only requirement left is 10 lbs to lose. That's all Manchester requires is 10 lbs it's rediculous It's taking me months to stop this up and down rollercoaster game! I get so close to the mark then bam gain it back! I'm determined and motivated to get my rear end in gear and I need encouragement! I think we all here need a friend to talk to and knows what we are going through here!!
If your interested in Manchester all they require is 10 lbs weight loss, a letter of medical necessity from your primary care, proof that insurance will pay for the procedure. You have to do a minimum of 3 seminars they are the 2nd Friday of every month. Your BMI has to be within 40-60.

Dr.Gould is the surgeon and he will do the procedure you choose at Elliot!
Feel free to email me if you have any questions or just need to vent!

Thanks.
I have already invested so much time and energy in this! I am exhausted. I can't wait until my appointment with the surgeon (just under a month now). Hopefully at that point I get a date and can at least plan the rest of my life lol.
