I am going through the program at CMC and I was wondering what the pre-op diet was. Is there a place to find the pre-op/post-op diets published? I would like to get prepared in advance if possible. I am a lap bander. Do we need to do the liquid diet for 2 weeks prior? I understand the post op stages but was hoping there was something in writing I could use as a guide so I could start sampling things now and stocking up. Thanks. D
In Portsmouth they didnt really have a pre-op diet. The day before surgery was a liquid day but other than that the only diet restrictions were what you put on yourself to get down to surgery weight. For me it was high protein and fiber and little surgar. Even after surgery I still wont eat anything with more than 9g of sugar (except fruit and yogurt) despite the fact that with the band, I could.
I remember somone in the program mentioning the program doing the diet like this was beacuse (1) it got you into the habit of eating right that you w ill need to do for the rest of your life and (2) beacuse if you do a 2 week liquid diet you become pretty weak, and they want you strong for surgery.
If you are getting it done at CMC I would check with the program there and see what they have for a pre-op diet, it could be different from Portsmouth.
hope that helps!!
