Hi everyone,

Well, after sliming for about the 100th time on my calcium tablets, I thought I would post to see what kind of chewable calcium everyone likes.  I really need to find something.  I can't do even the petite calcium citrate tablets anymore.

Hi Martha,

Just curious, why are you still on chewables, is it because of the band not doing pills well? I have a friend going for a revision and will have a band after having RNY. just wondering if it is common to have issues after the band.

I use Citracal Petite Cal. Cit w/D but they are not chewable... but I also have no issues getting horse pills down either...lol

Have a great night...Laurie

Hi Laurie,

I used to be able to swallow just about any pills until my last fill.  Now they are getting harder to swallow.  I had been taking the Citracal Petite's but now even split they still get stuck.  Some people with the band don't have any problems, but I seem to be having difficulties within the last few months.  I guess the band is working!

I have just the CVS brand of chewable calcium. They arent that bad and get you everytihng you need, plus they are cheaper which is a HUGE plus for me!

Martha, what about the Viactiv soft chews?  I have had them before, the chocolate ones are very yummy, and they have Vitamin D as well.  I'm not sure it they are Calcium Citrate or not though.

No, I don't think they are calcium citrate.  I think they're calcium caltrate, and our bodies won't absorb that as well.

I think Kathy is right, I think that is why I stopped taking them.  But now taking nothing is not good, so I may go back to them.

Martha -
Try this link.  It's for UpCal, which is powdered calcium citrate with Vitamin D.  You add it to your beverage, and it doesn't alter the flavor of what you're adding it to.  I've tried it before, and I didn't even realize I was taking my calcium.

thanks Kathy.  I was using the Bariatric Advantage powdered, but I started noticing a change in the taste of what I added it to, so I stopped.  Didn't like the taste!  I will have to check these out!

Hi Martha,

I have been using the upcal-D powered as well. It is fantastic and really does not change the taste. I have only been able to find it on-line.

I can bring some samples in at the next support group meeting. I bought the individual packets that way I can keep them in my purse and never be stuck without my calcium.
