Did I do the right thing?

OK so here it is 1 week before my surgery and my "sister in law" has now found out I am having wls and she has now sent me links for weight loss products and how great so and so did on it and that I should just look at it before I truly decide that WLS is the right choice.   At first I was a Pi$$ed then I thought how could she, then the little cricket on my shoulder told me not to fire off the first e-mail I typed.  So I deleted it and just replied "thank you for the info and see you Saturday".  Hubby thinks I should have let her have it with both barrels, and with the history between us  that was my first thought, but then... people here have taught me that I can be the better person.  So I guess I wanted to vent, ask if you think I did the right thing and say THANK YOU all in the same thread.

You def. did the right thing (in my opinion.)  Good for you for not stooping to her level and being the bigger person.  You prob. won't change her mind on WLS so why try?

Good luck with your surgery.  Let us know how everything goes.

I think you did the right thing.  I don't know the "history between you," but I do know that people don't usually get up in the morning with the thought of being mean or thoughtless as to someone else.  In her own way, she probably thought she was trying to help.  WLS is just as scary (if not scarier) for our loved ones as it is for the person actually having the surgery.  So people will try to find other ways for you to accomplish your goals without you having to go through surgery.  Of course, there are also those who (subconsciously) are jealous of the idea that we may be successful with weight loss, especially if they feel that they also need to lose weight, but either cannot or will not take the WLS route.  Anyway, it's always better to take the high road.

Wow!  You are less than a week away.  That's exciting - good luck!

You definitely did the right thing. There are always going to be people who don't agree with surgery and are going to to try to talk you our of it (I had my sister!). You just need to do what it best for you!! Let her send you all the weight loss links she wants, just thank her and move on knowing you are doing what is in your best interest for the long run.
If you need to vent about things more you know where to come. Sadly, I bet she will be giving out little jabs here and there even after surgery (again, as my sister does every time I speak with her). Like others have said, she may be worried, scared or even jealous of what you are doing and, unfortunately, she will deal with it in a way that is not so pleasant for you.

Less than a week... YAY!!!

You did the right thing...  But didn't your husband already have WLS?  You would think she'd get over it by now... :)

Yes, you did the right thing.  I have found that those kind of people are scared of wls and think they are trying to help and no matter what you say she will probably not change her mind on the subject.

I like to pick my battles, I would not waste my time on this one.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

I totally agree with everyone else.  Good for you for being the better person.  When I told a friend that I thought would be very supportive, she replied that she did not know why I was doing the WLS, and in five years I could lose the weight (and keep it off) with diet and exercise.  She herself has been really struggling with weight loss, and has gained back most of what she lost.  We have not talked about the subject again.

So, forget about it...and enjoy the last few days before your surgery.  Everything will go great, and you will join us on the other side!!!
