post op pain spincter of oddi dysfunction
I am a yr and a half post gastric bypass and had my gallbladder out last june... been having horrible mid abdominal pain. very very intense worse than the pain when I had my GB attack. I am going in for an Endoscopic ultrasound. They believe it is dysfunction of the spincter of oddi. Has anyone had this and if so have you had the surgery to fix it?? It is obviously a much more difficult surgery to have it fixed bc the stomach is no longer attached. looking for any info... please help

Hi Kelley,
I have been going throught this for the last 4 yrs. I too had my GB out and then these pains. I have had EVERY test possible, 2 and 3 times...have been hospitalized 2x and still they do not know what it is. You are right the pain is worse than the GB. I was checked for oddi but it was not what was going on. My surgeon believes that my colon just goes into spasm and unless they can get a picture to locate that exact area, while I am having an attack, we both agree that we don't want to operate.
I hope for you, that you get an answer and they can fix it. Some days I wonder how I am going to get through this but then it lets up and I can function normally. It is not fun but I know that even if I knew this could happen I would have done my GPB surgery because life is better for the most part.
Good luck and please let me know how you make out...Laurie
