He will send in your information to your insurance company and as soon as they approve he will schedule your date.  You will then have 1 more apt with him just before surgery for any final questions.  Bring who ever will be with you after surgery and anyone who may have questions.
depends on your insurance could be 3-20 business days all depends on them.

Hope this helps

Good Luck.
Laurie

Hi Laurie,

It does! I am trying to plan and keep work informed. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield have you heard if they are fast or slow?

They average about 7-10 business days, but I know Dr. Gens is going away for a week in May.  So I would say Maybe right before Memorial Day?  That is what I would shoot for, and then tell them that is still up in the air.

I have blue cross blue shield, and I got my answer in three days after they submitted the paperwork.  It might take a little longer, but you will be on the other side very soon!

Thanks!

everyone is sooo helpful on this site. I met with Dr. Gens this morning and he was wonderful! I will be sure to ask lots of questions as I get closer to a date. Thank you to everyone who take the time to respond to questions. You are most definitely paying in forward!

Just wondering - what everyone's experience was in terms of the overall time frame?  I had my first meeting with Nancy on Friday & it seems like everyone else was booked until the end of May.  Now that I have made the decision to pursue surgery (although I am torn between band & rny), I am anxious to get all the ducks in a row.

KSS - It depends on when you can meet with Dr. Wagner, the psych.  The behavior classes are 5 weeks, so it depends on where you are in termsof getting into the next session. If one 5 week session just started, you will be at least 10 weeks before surgery, if you can start in the next session, it might be faster.

It also depends on how quickly you lose the 10% weight loss that is required.  You can meet all the other requirements, but if the weight loss takes longer, you will have to wait.

I have seen most people scheduled for surgery 4-6 months after beginning the process.
