Nervous - Any Advice
Hi,
I am scheduled for RNY on April 16th and I am starting to get really nervous, I hear this is normal.
I would appreciate any tips or advice I can get, how long is the hospital stay, how was the pain, how are things when you get home, when can you go back to work.
Sorry for all the questions, I just need to hear from other people who have been through this, hopefully it will calm my nerves.
Thanks
Lisa

i am 8 weeks post-op... being nervous is very normal! is far as pain there will be some just move slow and carefully the first couple of days (don't jump out of bed the first day like i did) and the pain will be managible. at you pre op visit with your surgen ask what to expect after surgery .. i think i would have had less stress if i had better ideas about the things that are " fairly normal" but you never hear about.. you will do fine !
feel free to ask ? if you would like i am not shy about telling the details
good luck and we have a spot for you on the losers bench!

I was really nervous too, but believe me, it will be so worth it in the end. My advice to you is to get up and walk in the hospital as soon as you can, even if it hurts. It will only help you feel better that much sooner. I did not do that because I guess I was being a baby, and I really regretted it. Anyway, the great feeling you'll have about yourself as you lose the weight and as you realize that YOU are now in control of your life (not the food) will outlast any pain you may feel in the beginning.

Hi Lisa, I just had gastric bypass 5 weeks ago and I too got nervous about 2 weeks before. I hadn't been up until that point...it hit me this was really happening! The hosp stay was 2 nights, pain was moderate. Feels like you've done 1000 situps. Sitting down/standing up is abit painful the first few days, but I found tolerable, was off pain meds 4 days after. After the 1st week, it gets WAY better! I started back to work last week. Just follow the dr orders, make sure you're walking after surgery and follow the menu...esp drink ur protein! I am thrilled I did this, although I remember laying in the hosp the first day thinking "what did I do??". Best wishes to you!
