Pain

Hi all!  I had RNY on the 16th of Feb, so about 2 weeks ago. Been doing great  with mushies, protein, water etc. However, I have a place on my right side, kinda like between that incision and the place where the drain tube was.  When I sit or stand or twist, like to turn to back up when driving I get like a pulling, burning pain.  It helps if I put my hand on it and kind of press it, or hold it.  That is the only time I have discomfort. Is this normal? Still healing??  Thanks to anyone who knows!

I'm not sure if what you're experiencing is "normal," but I remember that one of my incisions was more painful than all the rest.  It was the one from where they did the most during the surgery.  I think that, for me, it was my lower left incision, but it could have been the right.  Funny, I never thought I would forget any details of my surgery, but after only 2 1/2 years, I've forgotten so many of them!  Anyway, my suggestion to you is that if things don't feel right, give your doctor a call just to be sure.  That's the only way you're really going to know.  Good luck.

I had more pain with my left incision, not the right one with the drain, but I would say it is normal for you to have the discomfort while healing. If it continues to bother you or gets worse, call Dr. Gens and let him know about it. You can also call Nancy and she can tell you whether or not you should be seen. When in doubt, pick up the phone. They won't mind the call, in fact they will bend over backwards to help you out (they always have with me).

For several weeks, I used to press a pillow against my stomach or press on my abdomen with my hand when I got up or sat down - it kept everything from pulling.  It is quite normal, you just don't realize how much you use your abdominal muscles until they are healing after surgery.  Keep up the great work!

I had a simialr problem. Dr G said there is usually more pain on the right.  I had surgery Feb 2 and have and just started sleeping in my bed last week.  Always had pain on that same side when laying down. At 4 wks I had no more pain. It was like overnight it was gone.
