Portsmouth - Heads Up
Hi,
I have been going through the bariatric program at Portsmouth Reginal Hospital and are waiting to be scheduled for RNY with Dr Gens. I was so excited yeasterday when I met with Nancy and have met my weight goal (I started the program Jan 5th) and since I have now completed all the steps I am now ready to schedule surgery. I was expecting her to call the surgeon and start scheduling appointments. Boy was I very disappointed when she said before we could schedule any pre-op testing I needed to have my primary care fax over all of any bloodwork or any other test that he ran on me for the last 12 months! I wish I had known this before, I would have started this ball rolling a week or so ago, my primary care said they only have one person in medical records, but they will do their best to get them faxed over.
Just a heads up to anyone else going throught the program.

Hi Leesann,
Every person going through the program is required to do different things. Some have to have 6 months of documented weight loss. Others have to jump through hoops to get their insurance to approve the procedure. I have not heard of anyone having to do this, so it must be unique to your situation. There is always a reason for Nancy or Dr. Gens to follow a certain path. You have done remarkable to go through the program as fast as you have. For many, including myself, it was at least a three month journey to get to the surgery. Be patient, and just keep calling your PCP to keep the ball rolling. remember, the sqeaky wheel gets the grease!!
