Over the border

I live just over the border in MA and had my RNY in Boston.  I started my journey in Manchester tho.  I was wondering when any local support groups are?  Going to Boston is tough.  I am 14 months out and the weight loss has slowed down.  I looked around on the NH board and love the way you all support eachother.  I don't see any of that on the MA board.

I hope you don't mind me crossing the border

CMC has their post op support group meeting the last Wednesday of the month.  This month it will be on the G level of the Hospital in G1-3.  You have to take the last elevator on the right to get up to G level.

You can cross the border anytime!  I'm a Kathy V. too.  I had my surgery at Tufts with Dr. Kim.  There are a couple of support groups locally.  There's the one at CMC that Serenity just told you about.  There is also one at Dartmouth Hitch**** Clinic on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. (2nd floor).  And there's a new one in Nashua that's really good.  It's on the last Tuesday of every month from 7 to 8:30 at 70 Temple Street.  Last month was the first meeting, and it was very good.  It's run by a doctor, Dr. Brown, and a nutritionist.  It was very good.  I plan to attend that one as often as I can.

Also, anytime you want to go to Boston, let me know.  Maybe we can carpool.  I don't go to the general meetings anymore, but I might reconsider if I had someone to go with.  I still go to the small post-op groups - although I may stop for awhile until Tufts can get its billing under control!  It's so bad right now that I don't want to incur another bill until they can figure out the ones that are still outstanding.

You should also think about joining our monthly exercise challenge run by Bamma, and post to our "daily plan" posts.  This group is great - very supportive and just downright friendly.  Welcome!

THX for all the info.  I am in Nashua a few times a month so I think I'll try the next meeting in Nashua.  Do I have to sign up?
Also I'd like to join you guys with the exercise challange and daily posts.  What are the rules????

I started my journey at CMC.  I worked in the OR w/ Dr Campbell but had some medical issues and needed to go into Boston.  Had my RNY at Tufts with Dr Tarnoff.  Best decision of my life.  BUT at 14 months out, things have slowed down sooner than I wanted them to.  Maybe a little bit of accountability would help.

Again, THX for your info--I'm off to the GYM.

Do you still work at CMC?  My daughter, Holly, is an RN on D100 (I think).  Anyway, she's on the floor that gets all the RNYs and Lapbands.

The rules for the exercise challenge are simple.  You just send Bamma (Martha) the number of minutes that you think you can exercise during the month.  Every week, she'll post a request asking everyone to let her know how many minutes you exercised for that week.  That's it.  No prizes (and no booby prizes if you don't make your goal).  Just a lot of support and a great cheerleading session  :)  We're right at the beginning of February, so you should just reply to her "February Exercise Challenge" post, and she'll add you to the list.

For the daily plan posts, there are no rules.  Just post what you plan on doing for the day, what you want to eat, whether you'll exercise and other things that you plan to do to achieve a healthy day (like that you will write down what you eat, or take your calcium, etc.). It's a great way to stay accountable.

What gym do you go to?  I go to Planet Fitness by CMC.

I'm not at CMC anymore.  It was a great place to work tho.

I think I will reply to Bamma.  Sounds like a great support circle.

I now live in Methuen MA (I hate MA--want to be back in NH) and I go to WOW.  Today I stepped up my workout.  Felt good!!!

From one Kathy V to the other---THX for all the help and advice.  I'm sure we'll be talking.

Hi Kathy,

I had my surgery in Nashua 6 yrs ago with Dr. Jeff Brown. He is now practising at the Winchester Hospital in Ma but is trying to get new patients from the greater Nashua area so he has started our support group back and we have it every 4th Tuesday of the month at the Nashua Senior Center on Temple Street in Nashua.
We love to have new people join us and Dr. Brown does attend as many group meetings that he can. He is the best and is very open to etting anyone attend our meetings so please feel free to join us....Laurie in Nashua
