Saw Dr Gens today!
Well, I finally got my date for surgery. Only a few weeks away and getting more nervous with every day that passes. I would love to hear about your experiences and or advice that would be helpful as my day approaches. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to deal with that pre-op anxiety? Or any before surgery tips? I look forward to hearing about your experiences and look forward to sharing my successes.

I worked until the day before my surgery. Between that, getting my house in order and shopping for post surgery diet I did not have much time to worry about it.
You can find all sorts of lists of what to bring for the hospital. I followed what most everyone said, however, I also brought some crystal light packets and such to add to the water. It made it easier to drink. Good luck

I happened to have a loud person in the room next to me - he seemed to be not in his right mind and was almost constanstly calling out for "help, help"... I tried keeping the television on, opening the window to listen to traffic - anyhow, if I had it to do over again I would have brought ear plugs.
I did bring chapstick, but was also given some by the hospital. Another thing I didn't think of was a solid form case for my glasses - of course this isn't necessary if you don't wear glasses.
Best of luck to you!

Hi Sonya,
What everyone else posted is great. I also worked right up to the day before my surgery. It helped get through the liquid only day! Cleaning, doing laundry, and just overall stuff around the house, grocery shopping, and downloading music on your mp3 player or iPod also is a good way to spend time. You definitely want to bring your mp3 or iPod with you. Helps with filtering noise, and gives you something to do during the day other than watch television. Ear plugs are also a great idea.
Are you having RNY or lap band? Preparing for what procedure you are having differs. RNY you will not be as mobile and active as lap band after surgery. You will also be in the hospital longer with RNY. I think the more you do before your surgery takes all the pressure off of you after.
Being nervous is totally natural. Be careful not to slip back into old habits. If you gain and do not meet your required weight loss goal, they will cancel your surgery. Have fun. Do the "last supper" thing, just be very, very careful.
I was uncharacteristically calm before my surgery. I was so confident that what I was about to do was the right thing for me, and I was so happy with my decision. You will find that also. Everyone handles things differently, but all will agree that they went through some form of anxiety, nervousness, maybe a little fear, but overall the whole experience is so well worth the result.
