I have a date- February 3rd
Hi Everyone, I just got my date today. I will have a conversion from a lap band to an RNY on February 3rd. I've begun stockpiling, protien, soups, stock, protien drinks etc. I am in a very different place then I was the first time. I am much more aware of my issues and how to minimize if not stop them from getting in my way. I look forward to being on this board. If anyone has any tips, products they love advice etc. I'd always love to hear it.
Dr. Truss at Dartmouth Hitch**** is doing my surgery. He and his team are fantastic.

First of all congrats and good luck on your surgery, I was wondering why your switching from lapband to RHY? was the band not successful for you? and what kind of problems did you have? I ask because I am having lapband surgery on December 30th and I always try to get as much info as I can. Thanks for sharing if you dont want to share certain information I certainly understand.
Thanks again
Thanks again
Thanks for the congrats.I had some success with the band. I lost 40lbs and maintained that loss for the past 1.5 years. My lap band surgery was 2 years ago. My band has turned and it needs to come out. Add to that I had some issues with my first surgeon and I didn't see eye to eye, I didn't get the most out of my experience. I stopped seeing him for over a year. Finally, I decided I needed to be under another doc's care. That was the best thing I ever did.
I did do myself some damage while not under any-body's care. I developed GERD, my band twisted and I developed some vitamin deficiencies from not being able to eat well on a sustained basis. So, it has been quite a journey.
The most important thing I can say is this: Be sure you are 100% of any personal issues related to food and weight so they don't take you by surprise. Be sure to advocate for yourself. If your surgeon or the team does something you don't like, speak up Also, I thought I should have gastric from the start, but I let my doc talk me out of it. I believe I'd be at goal now instead of starting with another surgery to lose the rest.
I am happy to share my experience with you. Best of luck.

Thank you so much for your input, I never wanted RNY its just too many risks with it for me, I do love the team in portsmouth NH and have heard nothing but wonderful things about them. I am with them for a 5 year plan and look forward to my journey as far as issues with food and weight I know the weight will be slow to come off and I am ok with that as long as it does and I know that requires myself to stay on track and eat right and exercise. I am hoping the lapband is the tool to help keep me on track. good luck to you I hope you have much better luck with your new surgeon!
