Anyone use Portsmouth Regional Hospital???
Hi, saw this on the RNY board as well.
Yes, the numbers above are correct for the psych part. And well worth it in my opinion. Dr. Wagner shared with my class why he does not participate in insurance billing and in my mind, it is a valid concern of his.
The classes were great and I think they are an important part of having a successful outcome.
I think you also asked on RNY about why you have to use 'their' psych and you were right on track - having evaluated 100s of patients, Dr. Wagner knows what questions to ask, and what to address.
The individual meeting was not stressful at all, it was liek a question and answer session. Basically they want to ensure that you do not have unreasonable expectations for what WLS will and will not do in your life. Reasonable = wt loss and improved health. Unreasonable = I will get a modeling contract when I lose the weight.
Ask questions, everyone here is a great resource and feel free to send me a personal message if you would rather.
I am having surgery on 12/22, I am so ready for it, and so excited.
Julie

Wow! Thanks ladies!!!
So the classes are 5 paret series, right? Is it $250 for the whole series, or per class? Dr. Wagnor seemed great. I hate to get so hung up on the money, but both DH and I are planning to do it, and paying all of the stuff times 2 is stressful. $250 and $165 seems very reasonable!
Thanks again, and good luck on you surgery! Wow, only 3 days!!! I'll be eargerly looking for updates!

I used Portsmouth Regional and am very impressed with the entire package of their program.
Because we have mental health coverage as part of our insurance package, I was reimbursed over half of what I paid out of pocket for the initial visit with Jeff. I did call prior to meeting with him - and you don't need to tell them why you've having the meeting.
The costs have been listed correctly, and the behavior modification classes are definitely worth it. In the fourth class I was in a woman raised her hand to make a comment. She was there as a support person for someone else and said "Why didn't anyone tell me this stuff before I had my surgery?" She went to another program.
There may also be an out of pocket expense for your meeting with the nutritionist and physical therapist. It will depend upon your insurance.
You certainly couldn't pick a better program that Portsmouth's. All the best to you!
