Well I have my date for the surgery! It will be December 30th! I am so excited to fit it in before the end of the year and to start out the new year with my new life! I have to admit I am nervous now not about the band but the going under part but I guess that is normal! I can not wait to start my new journey!

Hi Jeff, I see you had Dr. Gens.  He is also the dr I will be using for my RNY.  How did you like him? How was the whole thing over all? Do you happen to know if there is a certain day of the week he does his surgeries? I know some dohave certain days they have the OR's. Thanks so much for any info you can share!  ~Cindy~

Hi Cindy,

Dr. Gens was great.  He did my surgery on a Tuesday, but I know he's doing someone else's surgery next Friday.  He may or may not have set days.  I'm not sure.  Have you met with him yet at all?  I met  with him twice before I had the surgery, and he's really patient and answers all of your questions.  I arrived at the hospital at 7AM, and I was in my hospital room at noon.  He came by every morning after my surgery was done, and I felt like he had done a great job.  The staff at the hospital was so knowledgable and caring.  Overall it was a great experience for me.

No, i haven't met with him yet.  I have had my psych eval with Jeff, and have one more class with him next week. Have gone to PT and NUT, have one more appt. with them both on the 21st.  I see Nancy again on Jan. 4th.  My biggest hold up is going to be trying to lose all the weight i need to before surgery. I struggle with it and with the holidays it doesn't make it any easier.  I have lost 6#'s of the 16 I need to lose since my last visit with Nancy last Monday.  It was 13, but I gained 3#'s over Thanksgiving. How are you feeling? How has your weight loss been? I can't wait to have it done! I just want it over so I can get on with getting it off!  ~Cindy~

The initial weight loss was tough.  I took off 15 pounds in a month.  I counted everything I ate, worked out 4 times a week, and I just kept telling myself that it was only a few pounds in order to move on to the next step.  I think if you can just focus on the number of pounds you have to lose in order to meet that goal you'll be fine. When I started drinking a lot of water, the weight came off easily.  I was drinking so much it was obnoxious, but it works.

I am feeling well.  I spent the day out shopping, and I just got home.  I do have some aches and pains in my lower adbomen from the marks left behind from the surgery.  Overall though, I feel good.

Congratulations!  I'm excited for you, too.

It is normal to worry about the going under.  I will say that the OR staff was incredible.  The anesthesiologist and Dr. Gens both came by prior to surgery.  When the team wheeled me in, they introduced themselves and told me everything they were doing and why.  The nurse anesthesiologist explained exactly what he was doing,  I felt comfortable and safe.

Next thing I knew I was in recovery.  The nurses immediately got my family and brought them in.

I can't say enough about the staff at Portsmouth.  Though I've spent most of my life in bank management, I did spend about five years working in a hospital.  This team was absolutely incredible.  They work like a team.  Both my husband and best friend are nurses, and they commented about the excellent care provided for me AND for them.  Dr. Gens' called about halfway through the surgery, then came out to speak with them.  The nurses were great and on top of everything.  My husband has a chronic illness and when my friend mentioned he may need a recliner, they had one in my room within two minutes.

Like most people say, I wish I would have done this sooner.  But I am so grateful and thankful for waiting and finding the program through Portsmouth.

You're gonna rock the house, Rose!
