Surgery Tomorrow

So its finally here, what a very long journey.  For some reason I seem to be drawing a blank on a couple things though.  How long is gastric bypass surgery?  I was thinking 4 hours, and than 2 in recovery.  And how long will I be in the hospital?  I believe that was until Wednesday.  I am really not usually such a scatter brain, but I debated between lapband and RNY up until 2 months ago, that I kinda think I am mixing all the info in my brain.

Thanks to everyone who has answered my questions to this point.  I am glad I found this website!!

No set in stone time frame for GBP surgery...mine was 7 hrs
and my girlfriend was done in 3.5...just depends on the surgeon, your insides and if they can do it lap or have to open you up...and they don't know that til they can get in. I was only in recovery for 1/2 hr and then the first night they kept us in ICU till we had our leak test the next morning....
I did have mine lap, and I was good to go to a regular room after my leak test. I had surgery on Monday am and left the hospital at 8pm on Wednesday.(would have been out sooner but my surgeon was called in to an emergency surgery and was not out til 7:30pm)
Good luck to you, I hope your time will be shorter than mine....
and that you have a very easy recovery. I will tell you I was off pain meds after the leak test, only took tylenol and I was driving the morning after I got home....
Hugs and prayers for you...Laurie

Hi Gayle,

I remember the night before my surgery - I was very nervous and full of second thoughts.
Mine lasted about 3 hours. I was in recovery for a couple of hours and then sent to my room.
I don't really remember much at all. I don't remember going to the operating room or anything.
I had mine on a Monday morning and went home on Wednesday night.
Let me assure you this was the best thing I have ever done for myself and if I had to do it over again I would in a nano second. I wish I had done it earlier in my life.
Best of luck tomorrow. You'll be in my prayers.

Rosemary

Done and over with   I had no idea gas could hurt so much!!  My surgery was under 3 hours, I went home about noon today.  My belly is so bruised and I am so gassy.  I keep wondering why I did this to myself.  I cannot wait til I feel better.

Welcome to the losers' bench!!!  You will love it here.  Yes the gas hurts a lot.  You will feel it in your shoulder next.  It does pass.  Walk as much as you can, that will help dislodge it.

You did this because you want a better life, a healthier life for yourself.  You will not regret this.  I do not know one person who has regretted what they have done.  Hang in there, sip, sip, sip....walk as much as you can, and rest.  This too shall pass!
IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL.....KEEP GOING!!
