i am from manchester nh and i have no insurance because i am self employed and insurance would be so expensive. but i do have financial care from elliot and from dartmouth hitch**** but they are saying to me that they do not cover the lapband surgery because nh still considers this surgery elective or cosmeticeven though my doctor has said that it is medacally necs. i have venous stasis and cronic lymphedema and they say that it is cosmetic!!!!!!!!!!! i am soo angry with this system! i am not on welfare i dont take any thing from the state and i am avery hard working american with no insurance and i can not even have a little help to get this surgery something that i really need! but than you have these peolple that come over from africa and other places and they get handed health care coverage for them and their 10 kids!!!!!! what about us americans!!>????? please help any body robyn thank you
Hi Robyn-
I know how frustrating this can be. I also had an Insurance problem- it was excluded from the policy I had. As a fellow self employed person, I decided to play their game. I bought a BCBS policy (that I could do as a business owner) during open enrollment. I was totally honest with my agent about why I wanted the policy. My prior insurance would cover everything BUT the surgery. So, during open enrollment in Oct- I started paying for my policy. I had surgery on Nov 5th and cancelled the policy on in Jan. It was not cheap- (500 a month) but not a huge price for the benefits I have reaped. I am now down 150 lbs! (I had the whole RNY).
Le me know if you want the name of my Insurance agent- he was GREAT totally supportive. Sometimes we need to play hard ball just like the Ins. Companies. I am usually not a sneaky, manipulative person- but when it comes to Insurance why not! ( I do medical billing from home- so I see how lousy they are to patients on a daily basis)
So the bottom line- Do not give up! Get creative!
