Going Back to Work - Change expectations
OK, anyone have a self expectation on what you should loose after returning to work six weeks post surgery... I just had surgery have six weeks off, doing great but well. Worried, cuz I want a dramatic effect going back to my supportive collegues...
Weight has not really started to come off yet as I am only six days post surgery. Activity level has come back great and healed great....
SO, am I putting too many demands on something that will take a good year to work through and putting to much on a six week period or can I expect reasonable changes in the six weeks...

You can expect good results in 6 weeks if you do everything your Dr. tells you to. You didn't gain all the weight in a small period of time so please don't expect it to all come off in a short time period. Honestly I think you are expecting too much in 6 weeks. This entire process is a learning one. It's not really about being skinny. If your co-workers ARE supportive, they will compliment you for how far you have come and how brave you were to have GBS. Take it 1 day at a time and your transformation should happen as long as you use the tool you were given to it's fullest potential. Good luck!

Hi Fellow Nottingham Resident!!
I totally agree with Lisa. You need to take this one day at a time, and learn to use your new tool. The weight will come off as long as you are doing everything you should. Just remember to get your water, your protein and exercise in, and everything will come together. Do not set yourself up for failure by making deadlines that you may or may not reach. Take every step as a new beginning. You are very lucky to have supportive colleagues. Many of us are lucky to have family support. Have a great recovery time off, and use every minute.

Well, a Townie...
Very Cool! Yea, I am taking it a day at a time. Very tired today, yesterday I was all over the place on the farm...
We live right in the middle of town 152 / 156 intersection we have the farm with the three horses...
I can't ride, that kills me and this is the best time to ride but the inside would die with that bouncing...
I put on 10 lbs in three days in the hospital and became a bit concerned but that has all gone back off and is now starting to drop...
I have a chance at a new life and you and Lisa re correct. Every step is another one towards a better healthier life for me and the family....
Stop by sometime...

I believe I know where you are. We are on Kelsey Road, which is off of McCrillis. Not too far from each other!
I think the biggest thing that people need to realize is that they will gain weight in the hospital. I gained 7 pounds. It is all the fluids they give you. It sounds like you are doing very well though. I will stop by, I would love to meet you.
Take care.

It's not unusual to have a bump up in weight from all the IV fluids they push when you are in for the surgery. As you see, it comes off. Try not to let it turn into a numbers game. You'll find that when the scale drops your size may stabilize and when the scale stands still your size may drop. Just do what you are supposed to do and the weight will come off! It's not a race, it's your life. Embrace the process, it's gonna be an exciting ride!
